A visualization and analysis tool is provided for an insulin delivery system, such as an artificial pancreas, in which insulin is delivered based upon a system algorithm using a pump that is patient controllable in order to adjust insulin delivery relative to a baseline delivery rate; e.g., pre-set basal rate and a sensor for measuring glucose levels. The tool is configured with a controller of the system to detect and log events that are based on differences between actual insulin delivered by the system and the baseline delivery rate. These detected events are metrics that provide information relating to the therapeutic value of the system which, without such metrics, may be overlooked or unnoticed, thereby fostering trust and confidence in the delivery system. In addition, information is provided which may enable further improved glucose control.

The controller receives the operating voltage from the converter, monitors the voltage of the main battery, and compares the monitored main battery voltage to a main battery low voltage threshold. The controller transmits a disconnect signal to decouple the main battery from the converter if the monitored voltage from the main battery is less than the main battery low voltage threshold. The controller transmits a connection signal to couple the backup battery to the converter if the monitored voltage is less than the main battery low voltage threshold. The backup battery provides the power for a predetermined minimum amount of time.

An exemplary method of operating an infusion device to deliver fluid to a body of a user involves obtaining measurement values for a physiological condition influenced by the fluid, autonomously operating the infusion device to deliver the fluid based at least in part on the measurement values, and detecting a nonactionable condition based on the measurement values. In response to detecting the nonactionable condition, delivery of the fluid is limited while maintaining autonomous operation of the infusion device. In one exemplary embodiment, the nonactionable condition is a rescue condition indicative of the user having consumed fast-acting carbohydrates, and thus insulin delivery may be automatically limited in response to detecting the rescue carbohydrate consumption.
