Abstract:
The present invention generally relates to microfluidic droplets and, in particular, to multiple emulsion microfluidic droplets. In one set of embodiments, multiple emulsion droplets are provided, where an inner shell of the droplet is relatively thin, compared to the outer shell (or other shells) of the droplet. For instance, in one set of embodiments, the inner droplet has an average thickness of less than about 1000 nm. In some cases, the inner shell may be rigidified, e.g., to form a gel or a polymeric layer. This may be useful, for example, for preventing coalescence of fluids within the microfluidic droplet. Other embodiments of the present invention are generally directed to methods of making such droplets, methods of using such droplets, microfluidic devices for making such droplets, and the like.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for producing a dispersion of microcapsules of active ingredient, in suspension in water, comprising the following successive steps: heating a fatty phase comprising at least (i) a wax, and at least one active ingredient to be encapsulated, at a reaction temperature above the melting point of said wax; heating a first aqueous phase comprising at least one water-soluble surfactant and at least one protective colloid; incorporating said fatty phase into said first aqueous phase while maintaining the reaction temperature, so as to form a stable oil-in-water emulsion; adding, dropwise, said emulsion previously formed to a second aqueous phase comprising at least one water-soluble surfactant, the temperature of said second phase being below the melting point of said wax and resulting in the formation of solid crystalline microcapsules containing said active ingredient, said microcapsules being in suspension in said second aqueous phase. The invention also relates to the use of the microcapsules obtained at the end of the process, (i) for producing a cosmetic composition or (ii) for producing impregnated fabrics or (iii) for producing household products.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for generating droplets with a high level of uniformity in liquid systems that present a low interfacial tension. This method and apparatus utilize the breakup of the dispersed phase in a controlled fashion by periodically varying the pressure that drives the fluids so as to successfully generate emulsions with a good control over the size. The method and apparatus can be used for the formation of simple emulsion or double emulsion where a larger droplet contains one or more smaller droplets.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a method of producing reverse microemulsions from cationic copolymers. The inventive method consists in the polymerisation of a non-ionic monomer and a cationic monomer into a reverse microemulsion. Said polymerisation is carried out in the presence of an auto-reversible surfactant system in contact with an aqueous suspension or solution which can thermodynamically stabilise the system. According to the invention, the non-ionic monomer/cationic monomer mass ratio is included between 99:1 and 20:80.
Abstract:
Dispersions containing a liquid vehicle (which can be aqueous, semi-aqueous or non-aqueous), organic or inorganic particles (or mixtures) that are insoluble in the liquid vehicle and a polymeric dispersant, preferably a structured polymeric dispersant, having one or more segments soluble in the liquid vehicle and one or more segments insoluble in the liquid vehicle, have improved stability when the insoluble segment(s) contains cross-linking groups which are cross-linked to itself or a cross-linking compound such as a polyfunctional monomer, oligomer or polymer to form an encapsulation network that entraps the particles which are particularly useful for paints or inks in coating and printing applications.
