The composition is applied to a part then photocured. It is dry to touch. Thereafter a thermoplastic material such as a polyolefin is overmolded (e.g. injection molded) over the applied composition. It enhances bond strength of the polyolefin to the part.

The subject invention includes a fixed window assembly for a vehicle comprising a fixed glass, a trim portion having a polymeric base and a decorative member bonded to the polymeric base. An encapsulation is coupled to the fixed glass and the polymeric base to mount the trim portion in a spaced and adjacent position relative to the fixed glass. A method of manufacturing is also provided using first and second molding apparatuses. Polymeric material is injected into a first mold cavity of the first molding apparatus to form the polymeric base bonded to the decorative member. Polymeric material is injected into a second mold cavity of the second molding apparatus to form the encapsulation coupled to the fixed glass and simultaneously coupled to the polymeric base to mount the trim portion in an adjacent position to the fixed glass.

There are provided a process and an apparatus for producing an integrally molded glass/resin article which has a quality appearance. A mold 12 with plate glass 2 placed therein is clamped, and a resin for forming a resin molding is injected into a cavity space 14 such that the resin is filled in the cavity space 14. After filling, the resin filled in the cavity space 14 is pressurized. At that time, the pressure applied to the plate glass 2 is controlled so as to be within a certain range. Thus, it is possible not only to avoid a crack or misregistration in the plate glass 2 but also to prevent a sink from being formed on a frame 3 as the resin molding, thereby to produce an integrally molded glass/resin article 1 having a quality appearance.
