The invention relates to a device for welding tube segments (306) to a tubular molded article (301) as well as a laser welding method for joining a tube segment (306) to a tubular molded article (301), the tube wall of the tube segment (306) being composed of at least two different layers of material (302, 307). At least some sections of one (302) of said layers of material (302, 307) contain an absorber for laser radiation. The inventive method comprises the following steps: a PVC-free tube segment (306) and a tubular molded article (301) are supplied; the tube segment (306) and the tubular molded article (301) are positively inserted into one another such that superficial zones of the tube segment (306) and the tubular molded article (301) overlap; and the overlapping superficial zones are irradiated with laser radiation having a defined wavelength. Neither the joining partners (301, 306) nor parts of the device have to be moved during the inventive laser welding method.

A method for sterile connection of tubing includes welding the tubing sections (1, 3)together using an efficient laser (23). The ends of the tubing sections are brought together prior to the initiation of welding, facilitating isolation of interior passage (5, 7) of the tubing sections. The method can be carried out by an apparatus which is relatively inexpensive and compact.
