The present disclosure relates to a glass fiber sizing agent for a daylighting panel. The sizing agent includes effective components and water. The sizing agent has a solid content of 2-8%. Percentage of solid mass of each of the effective components in a solid mass of the sizing agent is as follows: a silane coupling agent: 3-15%; a film-forming agent: 68-93%; a lubricant: 0.5-10%; an antistatic agent: 1-12%; and a pH regulator: 0-5%. The present disclosure further relates to a preparation method of the glass fiber sizing agent for a daylighting panel and use of the sizing agent in fields of glass fibers and composite materials. Compared with the prior art, glass fiber products produced from the sizing agent of the present disclosure have a suitable stiffness and wet-out speed, and the sizing agent has an excellent refractive index, which is similar to that of matrix resin. Glass fibers coated with the sizing agent can improve light transmittance of daylighting panels and strength and service life of composite materials.

A sizing composition containing an epoxy film former, a urethane film former, a silane package that includes an aminosilane coupling agent and an epoxy silane coupling agent, a cationic lubricant, a non-ionic lubricant, an antistatic agent, and at least one acid is provided. The epoxy resin emulsion includes a low molecular weight liquid epoxy resin and one or more surfactants. The epoxy resin preferably has an epoxy equivalent weight from 185 - 192. The sizing composition may optionally contain a methacryloxy silane. The sizing composition may be used to size glass fibers used in filament winding applications to form reinforced composite articles with improved mechanical properties, wet tensile properties, improved resistance to cracking, and improved processing characteristics.

Dried bundles of chopped glass fibers that may be used in mat forming applications is provided. The chopped glass fiber bundles (42) are formed of individual glass fibers (12) positioned in a substantial parallel orientation. The dried chopped glass fiber bundles may be prepared by applying a size composition to attenuated glass fibers, splitting the fibers to obtain a desired bundle tex, chopping the wet glass bundles to a discrete length, and drying the wet glass bundles in a dielectric oven, a Cratec® oven, or a rotating tray oven. Alternatively, the dried chopped glass bundles may be prepared by sizing attenuated glass fibers, passing the sized fibers through a heat transfer chamber where air heated by a bushing is drawn into the heat transfer chamber to dry the glass fiber bundles, splitting the dried, sized glass fiber bundles to obtain a desired bundle tex, and chopping the dried bundles of glass fibers. The sizing composition includes : one or more film-forming agents selected from the group consisting of a polyrethane film-former, an unasturated polyester or an epoxy resin.

A glass yarn sizing composition consisting of a solution having a viscosity of at most 400 cP and including less than 5 wt % of a solvent and at least one ultraviolet radiation- or electron beam-polymerisable base system that includes at least one component with a molecular weight of less than 750 including at least one epoxy reactive function and at least 60 wt % of one or more components with a molecular weight of less than 750 including at least one reactive function selected from epoxy, hydroxy, vinylether, acrylic and methacrylic. A method using said composition and yarns coated therewith are also disclosed.
