    摘要: The invention relates to the use of compounds of formula (I): R1aRebOc. Ld as catalysts for the oxidation of aromatic compounds rich in electrons and of derivatives of such compounds, whereby the catalysts are used in a solution containing peroxide and in the presence of an anhydride, a carboxylic acid and/or a dehydrating agent. In said formula (I) a = 0 or an integer between 0 and 6, b = an integer between 1 and 4, c = an integer between 1 and 12, d = an integer between 0 and 4, and L = Lewis base. The sum of a, b and c is such that it ensures the pentavalence or heptavalence of the rhenium, provided that c is not greater than 3 . b. R1 can either not be present, or represent the same group or represent a different group and is an aliphatic hydrocarbon rest having between 1 and 10 C-atoms, an aromatic hydrocarbon rest having between 6 and 10 C-atoms or an aryl alkyl rest having between 7 and 9 C-atoms, whereby said R1 rests independently of each other may possibly be substituted identically or differently.

    摘要: A process for oxidizing aromatic and alkyl substituted aromatic compounds to carbonyl containing compounds by contacting an aromatic and alkyl aromatic compound with an aqueous solution of ceric methanesulfonate or ceric trifluoromethanesulfonate having at least 0.2 molar cerium ion concentration and from 1.5 to 9 molar concentration of free methanesulfonic acid or from 0.75 to 7 molar concentration of free trifluoromethanesulfonic acid. Lower concentration of free acid may be used by including an organic cosolvent which has at least 2 percent solubility in water.
    The present invention is further directed to a new solid product, cerium(IV) methanesulfonate hydroxide hydrate.
    Finally, the present invention is also directed to an oxidation process wherein aqueous acidic solutions of certain thallium(III) organosulfonates having at least 0.1 molar thallium ion concentration are contacted with an organic compound to form a related oxidized organic compound.

    摘要: An efficient and economical process is disclosed for oxidizing fused ring hydrocarbons to quinones by means of an aqueous acidic solution of cerium. The aqueous solution employed comprises dilute nitric acid containing a total cerium content of between about 0.5 and about 1.5 gram atoms per liter, about 30% to about 70% of which but not less than about 0.2 gram atom per liter is in the tetravalent state. Said aqueous acidic solution can be easily recovered and electrolytically treated at commercially attractive current densities of one ampere per square inch or higher to regenerate tetravalent cerium for reuse in oxidizing additional quantities of fused ring hydrocarbon.
