A polyimide-forming composition includes a particulate polyimide precursor composition having an average particle size of 0.1 to 100 micrometers wherein the polyimide precursor composition comprises a substituted or unsubstituted C4-40 bisanhydride, and a substituted or unsubstituted divalent C1-20 diamine; an aqueous carrier; and a surfactant. A method of manufacturing an article including a polyimide includes the steps of forming a preform comprising the polyimide-forming composition; and heating the preform at a temperature and for a period of time effective to imidize the polyimide precursor composition and form the polyimide. An article prepared by the method, and a layer or coating including a polyimide and a surfactant are also described.

This invention provides a cell culture substrate comprising on its surface a fluorine-containing polymer that enables three-dimensional tissue culture. The cell culture substrate of the invention has a surface at least a part of which is composed of a resin composition comprising a fluorine-containing polymer having one or more fluorine atoms in a repeating unit and exhibits the oxygen gas permeability of 219 cm 3 (STP)/(m 2 ·24h·atm) or higher. Three-dimensional tissue can be formed via cell culture with the use of the cell culture substrate of the invention.

Provided is a method of producing a polyimide resin or a polyimide coating, which is capable of producing a polyimide resin or a polyimide coating, each having excellent heat resistance and mechanical properties and having low hygroscopicity, while suppressing foaming. Provided is also a method of producing a polyamic acid solution, in which not only foaming at the time of polyimide resin production can be suppressed, but also a polyimide resin that is excellent in heat resistance and mechanical properties and low in hygroscopicity is given. Provided is further a polyimide coating and a polyamic acid solution obtained from these methods, respectively. A polyamic acid obtained from a reaction between a tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride component and a diamine component is heated in a mixed solvent composed of N,N,N',N'-tetramethylurea and at least one solvent selected from specified aprotic polar organic solvents and specified glycol ethers, to yield a polyimide resin.

Disclosed is a polyimide foam made of an aromatic polyimide composed of a tetracarboxylic acid component, which is composed of 0 to 90% by mole of a 3,3',4,4'-biphenyltetracarboxylic acid component and 100 to 10% by mole of a 3,3',4,4'-benzophenone tetracarboxylic acid component and/or a 2,3,3',4'-biphenyltetracarboxylic acid component, and a diamine component, which is composed of 50 to 97% by mole of m-phenylenediamine and 50 to 3% by mole of 4,4'-methylenedianiline. The polyimide foam can be produced easily, has uniform and fine cells, and has the mechanical properties required for practical use as a foam, such as flexibility that prevents the foam from cracking easily even when deformed and excellent cushioning properties, as well as heat resistance that can resist use at high temperatures.
