The invention has for its object to provide an improved actuating cylinder as described above which immediately acts on the hydraulic system in the event of the emergency situations sketched above and which prevents permanent damage to the various components. According to the invention, the hydraulic cylinder is for this purpose characterised in that it comprises a safety valve 40 which is passive in a first position and which in a second position, if the pressure in the second cylinder chamber is higher than a preset load pressure, connects the second cylinder chamber to the first cylinder chamber via a differential valve 30 .

A controller includes a thrust controller that controls the hydraulic cylinder based on the thrust of the hydraulic cylinder. The thrust controller calculates a required thrust value based on an operation amount of the input device, and obtains a thrust measurement of the thrust of the hydraulic cylinder based on the pressure measured by the pressure sensor. The thrust controller controls the hydraulic circuit such that a thrust difference between the required thrust value and the thrust measurement is minimized.
