There is provided a method of operating a hybrid-vehicle drive system in which an internal combustion engine (1), a first electric motor (8) and a second electric motor (12) are combined to provide a driving source for a hybrid vehicle, wherein an output shaft (2) of the internal combustion engine (1) and the first electric motor (8) are connected via a power distribution mechanism (3) to a wheel drive shaft (11), the wheel drive shaft (11) is connected via a connecting portion (16) to the second electric motor (12), and a transmission (100) is provided on at least one of the wheel drive shaft (11) and the connecting portion (16) of the second electric motor (12) with the wheel drive shaft (11). The method comprises the step of changing a ratio of a first torque produced at vehicle axles by the internal combustion engine (1) to a second torque produced at the vehicle axles by the second electric motor (12) at each gear position of the transmission (100) from a first ratio of the first torque to the second torque when both of the internal combustion engine and the second electric motor operate normally to a second ratio of the first torque to the second torque when one of the internal combustion engine and the second electric motor is faulty.
