The present invention firstly advantageously provides a robust, reliable electrical contact connection between a plurality of electrical carrier components, such as printed circuit boards, for example, which ensures secure contact is made even in the case of external influences such as vibrations, for example, and can be fitted, by means of a simple press-in mechanism, at the end of the fitting process. It is particularly suitable for applications in the automotive sector.

In conventional ETM (Etched Tri-Metal) circuit structures a pin connector in which the pin (30) is etched from the ETM substrate (16) and the mating cavity (32) is etched from the ETM substrate (18) to be mated. The connector utilizes the subtractive ETM structure processing to define any one of several pin-cavity configurations. The pin (30) serves as an anchor with the metallurgical bonds with solder (34) in the cavity (32) that forms on the copper surfaces (24,26) of the ETM circuit structures (16,18) to give good mechanical strength to the connection. In particular four different configurations of interconnections are shown and described.

A cable pad (114) and a contact pad (116) are provided at opposite ends of the circuit trace. The ground link is electrically common with the ground plane and is located adjacent to, and separated by a space from, the circuit trace. An insulating coating (168) is provided over at least part of the circuit trace, the ground plane and the outer surface of the circuit board. The insulating coating has a mask aperture there-through exposing an uncoated portion of the circuit trace and the ground link. A conductive jumper material is provided on the uncoated portion of the circuit trace and the ground link to electrically join the circuit trace with the ground plane.
