Abstract:
This invention relates to a lubricating composition comprising a blend of a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity, gear or transmission oil package and a top treatment which comprises at least one saturated fatty phosphate ester or salt, wherein the lubricating composition is free of saturated fatty phosphites. Tin another embodiment, the invention relates to a lubricating composition comprising a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity, at least one saturated fatty phosphate ester or salt, at least one polysulfide and at least one phosphorus antiwear or extreme pressure agent, wherein the lubricating composition is free of saturated fatty phosphites. The invention relates to additive combinations which when added to a lubricant can provide and improve frictional and, optionally, thermal stability properties. The additives include a phosphate ester or salt wherein the hydrocarbyl group of the phosphate is a fatty-saturated group. The top treatment may also include a substituted fatty imidazoline or reaction product of a fatty carboxylic acid and polyalkylene polyamine and/or a borated dispersant.
Abstract:
Disclosed are novel polyalkoxyamines having the formula:-
wherein (x+y) has a value in the range from 1 to 19 and y is either zero or an integer;
D is ⁅ CHR-CHR¹-O ⁆ n CHR¹-CHR- (II)
wherein either R=R¹=H or R=C₁ to C₄ alkyl and R¹= H and n has a value in the range from 1 to 10; and Y is independently either -OH or -NHR² wherein R² is either H or alkyl. Polyalkoxyamines having the formula (I) are prepared by the deaminative polymerisation of diamines, which can be prepared by the catalysed reaction of a glycol and ammonia in the presence of hydrogen. Reaction of a hydrocarbyl-substituted succinic acylating agent with the polyalkoxyamine of formula (I) produces a dispersant additive suitable for use in lubricating oil and fuel compositions.
Abstract:

Abstract:
The present invention provides a poly(hydroxycarboxylic acid) amide salt derivative having formula (III): [Y-CO[O-A-CO] n -Z-R + ] m pX q- (III) wherein Y is hydrogen or an optionally substituted hydrocarbyl group, A is a divalent optionally substituted hydrocarbyl group, n is from 1 to 100, preferably from 1 to 10, m is from 1 to 4, q is from 1 to 4 and p is an integer such that pq = m, Z is an optionally substituted divalent bridging group which is attached to the carbonyl group through a nitrogen atom, R+ is an ammonium group and Xq- is a non-sulphur-containing anion. Furthermore, the present invention provides a lubricating composition and a fuel composition containing the poly(hydroxycarboxylic acid) amide salt derivative and the use of the poly(hydroxycarboxylic acid) amide salt derivative for decreasing the phosphorus volatility of a fluid.
