    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cement dispersant showing excellent dispersion performance in the region of a high water reduction rate. SOLUTION: The cement dispersant contains a copolymer as an essential component containing the structural units derived from unsaturated (poly) alkylene glycol ether monomers expressed by general formula (1): YO(R1O)nH and unsaturated monocarboxylic acid monomers expressed by general formula (2), with the structural unit containing at least a structure derived from acrylic acids (salts). In formula (1), Y is a 4C alkyenyl group, R1O is one of 2-18C oxyalkylene groups or a mixture of two or more groups in which >=90 mol% of the whole oxyalkylene groups are oxyethylene groups, and n is the average molar number of added oxyalkylene groups and ranges from 1 to 300. In formula (2), each of R2, R3 and R4 is independently hydrogen or a methyl group and M is hydrogen, a monovalent metal, bivalent metal, ammonium group or organic amine group.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a specific water-soluble polymer exhibiting a high action for scavenging a calcium ion and showing a high action for dispersing clay even in high-hardness water, a detergent composition containing the polymer and to provide uses except the detergent composition by making the best of the characteristics of the water-soluble polymer. SOLUTION: This specific water-soluble polymer is characterized in that the polymer has >=0.40 calcium ion scavenging ability and >=0.50 clay dispersion ability in high-hardness water and is preferably obtained by compounding a polymer A having >=0.45 calcium ion scavenging ability with a polymer B having >=0.65 clay dispersion ability as essential components. This detergent composition obtained by using the water-soluble polymer has improved detergency even in high-hardness water.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject polymer large in absorption speed, easy in dryness and small in load on grinding by mixing a monomer aqueous solution containing a water-soluble ethylenically unsaturated monomer with a gas and subsequently polymerizing the monomer in the bubble-dispersed state. SOLUTION: This method for producing a hydrophilic polymer comprises mixing an aqueous monomer solution containing a water-soluble ethylenically unsaturated monomer such as (meth)acrylic acid with a gas such as an inert gas in a liquid state, preferably introducing the solution and the gas into a mixing region having an uneven surface and/or containing a filler to mix both the components or jetting either one of the aqueous monomer solution and the gas into the flow of the other from a nozzle in parallel to the flow to mix both the components, preferably adding a surfactant to the bubble-dispersed monomer aqueous solution, and subsequently polymerizing the monomer in the bubble-dispersed state, thus producing the objective polymer useful for uses requiring water absorption and water retention, such as the field of sanitary materials, e.g. sanitary articles or paper diapers, the fields of agriculture and horticulture, the field of foods, e.g. food freshness-holding materials, and the field of industrial materials, e.g. dew-preventing materials and cooling materials.
