PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide varnishes high in storage stability at ambient temperatures, and excellent in workability when in use; and to provide a prepreg, a film with resin, a metal foil-clad laminate and a printed wiring board constituted using the same. SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a varnish obtained by reacting at least a portion of functional groups of a resin having the functional groups which react with an amino group and including a polycyclic structure, with an amino group of a compound having the amino group in a solvent; and a varnish obtained by reacting at least a portion of functional groups of a resin having the functional groups which react with a phenolic hydroxy group and including a polycyclic structure, with a phenolic hydroxy group of a compound having the phenolic hydroxy group in a solvent. A prepreg, a prepreg laminate including the prepreg, a metal film laminate including the prepreg, and a printed wiring board including the prepreg. The prepreg includes a woven or non-woven fabric substrate; and an aromatic liquid-crystalline polyester amide copolymer, wherein the woven or non-woven fabric substrate is impregnated with the aromatic liquid-crystalline polyester amide copolymer. Therefore, the prepreg is not deformed or does not cause blisters. In addition, the prepreg has low dielectric properties in a high frequency range. Also, a metal film of the metal film laminate or the printed wiring board does not corrode.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyimide-based material excellent in heat resistance and formability (easiness in forming to a film-like form, smallness of processing load), and a film comprising the polyimide-based material. SOLUTION: The polyimide-based material includes a polyamic acid and/or polyimide prepared by reacting (A) at least one acyl compound selected from a group consisting of 1-cis-2-cis-3-trans-4-trans-cyclopentane tetracarboxylic acid, 1-cis-2-cis-3-trans-4-trans-cyclopentane tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride, and reactive derivatives thereof with (B) an imino-forming compound.
