    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the adhesion of a nickel plated layer to a main body metal fitting and fully exhibit the improvement effect of corrosion resistance by inclusion of the nickel plated layer.SOLUTION: A spark plug 1 comprises a cylindrical main body metal fitting 3 extending in an axis line CL1 direction and a nickel plated layer 31, made of a metal containing nickel as its main composition, which covers the outside surface of the main body metal fitting 3. In a monochrome gray image at 256 gray levels, where black corresponds to 0 and white corresponds to 255, of a cross section intersecting the outside surface of the nickel plated layer 31 at right angles, as observed by a transmission electron microscope using 200 kV acceleration voltage, the average value in 256 gray levels of the monochrome gray image is 170 to 230, both ends inclusive.

    Abstract: An adhesion of a nickel plating layer to a metal shell is improved, and an effect of improving a corrosion resistance by providing the nickel plating layer is sufficiently exerted.
