PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling the vaporization temperature of a vaporizable substance and elevating the flashing point of the substance having a flashing point. SOLUTION: This method for controlling the vaporization temperature of the vaporizable substance is provided by bringing the vaporizable substance in contact with a solid organic compound. The solid organic compound fixes the vaporizable substance as a molecular compound, etc., capable of stably holding the vaporizable substance at a normal temperature and normal pressure, and thereby preventing the vaporizable substance from vaporizing. The flashing point can be elevated by bringing a different substance from the substance having the flashing point in contact with the substance having the flashing point to form a molecular compound. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new alicyclic compound having a polycyclic carbon ring composed of 2-3 non-aromatic carbon rings each having two carbon atoms in common, containing a 1-substituted hydroxymethyl group bonded to the C of the joining part of two rings and useful e.g. as a monomer for functional polymer. SOLUTION: The objective compound is expressed by formula I or formula II [the rings A to E are each a non-aromatic carbon ring; Ra and Rb are each H or a hydrocarbon group and at least one of Ra and Rb is a hydrocarbon group; Rc to Re are each H, a halogen, an alkyl, a (protected) OH, nitro or the like], e.g. α,α-dimethyl-4a-decalin methanol. The compound of formula I or formula II can be produced e.g. by reacting an acyl-containing alicyclic compound of formula III or formula IV [Rx is H or a hydrocarbon group; Rc1 to Re1 are each H, a halogen, an alkyl, a (protected) OH, nitro or the like] with an organometallic compound of formula Ry-M [Ry is H or a hydrocarbon group; Ry is a hydrocarbon group when Rx is H; M is a (ligand-containing) metal or the like].
