PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laser device including an organic material which produces laser light by lasing when pumped. SOLUTION: The laser includes a first mirror layer 110 and a first active organic material layer 112 over a first mirror layer 110. A first active organic material lases when pumped, thereby producing laser light. The first mirror layer 110 reflects at least a portion of the light produced by the first active organic material. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element which can extract luminescence with extremely narrow spectrum width even under excitation of low energy density (current density). SOLUTION: An organic electroluminescence element comprises a substrate, a positive electrode layer, an organic layer including at least one organic material and a negative electrode layer. The main light extracting direction is in the parallel direction against the surface of the substrate. One of the cut-off wavelengths of the transverse electric modes of an optical waveguide that has an organic layer constituted by the element as a part of its core is included in the wavelength band of full width at half maximum of the fluorescence spectrum of one of the organic materials included in the organic layer. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting structure whereby light having a plurality of wavelength distributions can be emitted from the single light-emitting structure, high-density integration can be achieved, and polarization and an emission mode pattern of emitted light can be controlled. SOLUTION: A stacked three-dimensional photonic crystal is configured by stacking a plurality of three-dimensional photonic crystals having different photonic band gaps.
