SOLUTION: The objective compound is expressed by formula (R1 is a 1-4C alkyl; R2 is a substituted aryl or a 1-4C alkyl), e.g. 5-p-chlorobenzyl-1- methylhydantoin. The compound of formula can be produced by condensing a (substituted)benzaldehyde with an alkylhydantoin in a solvent (e.g. acetic acid) in the presence of a base (e.g. sodium acetate) and reducing the produced 5-(substituted benzal)-1-alkylhydantoin. The amounts of the components based on the alkylhydantoin are 2-100 times volume for the solvent, 0.5-3 times mol for the base and equal amount or excess for the benzaldehyde.
