Abstract:
A cable spacer for use between pairs of subconductors in overhead power transmission lines comprising a pair of similar lever arms, each lever arm having two semi-circular section grooves with a resilient lining, one groove being provided at either end of the lever arm, a pivotal connection between the lever arms arranged such that relative pivotal movement of the lever arms causes the grooves at the ends adjacent to the pivot to come together and form a first circular aperture for engaging a first subconductor and the grooves at the other end to form a second circular aperture for a second subconductor, and a fixing means for locking the arms in engagement with a pair of subconductors.
Abstract:
An enclosing means for lubricant for use in a pneumatic tire and wheel assembly to be located on or adjacent the interior surface of at least one lower sidewall region of the tire. The means comprises a closed annular pocket, at least one radially extending portion of a wall of which is constructed to be under greater stress than the remaining portions when the pocket is filled with lubricant and located in the tire. The greater stressed portion is located nearest to the interior surfaces of the tire when in use to urge the pocket towards the interior surface of the tire against counteracting centrifugal forces which tend to urge the pocket away from the surface. Also included is a tire and wheel assembly.
Abstract:
An apparatus for molding a hollow rubber article in a pair of female molding cavities, the apparatus having means to pre-work the rubber without curing before the molding step, the mold cavities having locking sprue grooves and the mold having means to pressurize it with gas and means to bring the mold cavities together to join the parts of the article. The apparatus enables satisfactory joining of the article parts without need for adhesive or undue pressure at joining stage.
Abstract:
A flame resistant polyurethane foam is made from a foam-forming reaction mixture containing a polymeric polyol and an aromatic polyisocyanate to which is added a mixture of A. As a foam modifier, a substance normally effective as a catalyst for the polymerisation of tolylene diisocyanate and B. As an anti-ageing additive for the foam, a precursor of a sulphonic acid.
Abstract:
A pneumatic tire provided with a tread pattern having at least one generally circumferentially extending groove having limbs of zig-zag plan form, wherein the base of the groove is of constant width, the width at the mouth of the groove adjacent to a junction is greater than the groove mouth width intermediate the junctions and the change from wider to narrower groove width is graduated so that there is a reduced tendency for the grooves to trap stones during use of the tire.
Abstract:
A platform conveyor comprising a low-speed zone, a high-speed zone and an intermediate variable speed zone comprising a plurality of platforms in edge-to-edge contact in the load bearing part of the conveyor which, in the varible speed zone move laterally relative to one another, each platform having provided parallel raised portions defining parallel grooves across a surface of the platform forming a load bearing surface, said portions being combed by a comb member wherein each contiguous pair of platforms at the adjacent edges has one platform of the pair provided at its adjacent edge with raised portions of resilient material, of which the following is a Specification.
Abstract:
A vehicle anti-skid system provided with a pulse generator arranged to produce an electrical signal at a frequency proportional to the angular velocity of a braked wheel of the vehicle, an apparatus for generating a digital count proportional to the angular velocity of the braked wheel, apparatus for comparing the count generated during a particular time interval with the count generated during a previous time interval thereby obtaining a measure of the actual rate of change of angular velocity of the braked wheel, apparatus for comparing this measure with a preset signal proportional to the maximum permissible rate of change of angular velocity of the wheel and apparatus arranged to release the brake associated with the wheel when the actual rate of change of velocity of the wheel exceeds the maximum permissible rate of change.
Abstract:
A wheel assembly comprising a wheel having disc and rim portions, a drive means in the form of a number of circumferentially spaced drive dogs arranged to extend substantially parallel to the intended axis of rotation of the wheel assembly, and an intermediate circumferentially extending heat isolating member arranged to extend between the drive dogs and the wheel, of which the following is a specification.
Abstract:
A vehicle wheel comprising a rim portion provided with axially spaced circumferentially extending tire bead seating regions and a rim well region positioned there-between, and a central disc portion the outer periphery of which is provided with a flange turned axially outwardly, that is, towards the outboard side of the wheel, the flange being secured to the rim portion under the axially outer tire bead seating region and the region of the disc portion adjacent the flange being arranged to be located by the outboard side of the rim well against axially inward movement relative to the rim portion, of which the following is a specification.
Abstract:
An apparatus for mounting and removing tires from wheel rims having at least three arms with means to engage the wheel rim for holding it. Each of the arms has one end pivotally secured to a circular plate and the center portion of each arm is slidably and pivotally mounted to another circular plate so that the free ends of the arms are radially movable when one plate is rotated in relation to the other. Braking means continuously engage one of the plates to insure relative rotation between the plates. The braking means move in a radial direction so that the braking surfaces will be self-cleaning.
