Abstract: A method for reducing latency during handover of user equipment (UE) between wireless base stations includes (a) receiving, at a network hub in an edge communication network, a first wireless signaling message from a source wireless base station, (b) determining, from the first wireless signaling message at the network hub, occurrence of a handover of UE from the source wireless base station to a target wireless base station, (c) in response to determining occurrence of the handover, translating, at the network hub, an address of first data packets intended for the UE from an address of the source wireless base station to an address of the target wireless base station, and (d) forwarding the first data packets from the network hub to the target wireless base station.

Abstract: Systems and methods for performing handovers for a user equipment (UE) include storing a dynamically-triggered search timer value and a high priority public land mobility network (PLMN) identifier at the UE (e.g., using a universal subscriber identity module (USIM). The UE generates a periodic measurement report with a list of PLMN identifiers associated with nearby access network nodes. In response to entering idle mode, the UE 102 determines whether the list of PLMN identifiers includes the high priority PLMN. In response to the list of PLMN identifiers including the high priority PLMN, the UE 102 initiates a dynamically-triggered search for a handover at a time indicated by the dynamically-triggered search timer value rather than by a larger minimum periodic search timer value. Accordingly, the dynamically-triggered search occurs quickly (e.g., between 5 and 30 seconds) after the UE enters the idle mode as compared to minimum periodic search timer-based handover searches.

Abstract: A method is provided for initiating a handover of a wireless device from a first node to a second node in a communication network. The method includes steps of (a) obtaining, at a first time, a (i) speed, (ii) direction, and (iii) first location of the wireless device, (b) determining, relative to the first location, a first signal strength of the second node and a second, higher signal strength of a third node different from the second node, (c) estimating, based on the obtained (i) first location, (ii) speed, and (iii) direction, a second location for the wireless device at a second, subsequent time, (d) confirming that the second location is within a transmission range of the second node, and (e) preempting the handover to the third node by performing, prior to the second time, the handover directly from the first node to the second node.

Abstract: Systems and methods enhance handling, within an access point (AP) of a local area network, of content from a content provider. A content session core of the AP opens a session with the content provider and allows interaction between a user of a first end device and the content provider via the session. Content from the content provider is received at the content session core and forwarded for play on the first end device. The content session core may mirror the content to a second real end device without requiring an additional session with the content provider, and may switch play of the content from the first to the second end devices without disconnecting the session with the content provider. A wireless LAN controller enhances a connectivity experience of a mobile device by determining its location and predicting when to handoff connectivity between wireless APs of the LAN.

Abstract: A method is provided for initiating a handover, to a non-serving first wireless communication network, of a wireless electronic user device connected to a serving second wireless communication network to which the user device is not subscribed. The method includes a step of obtaining a device measurement report from the user device. The method further includes a step of analyzing, by a processor separate from the serving second wireless communication network, the obtained measurement report to detect visibility of the first wireless communication network in the measurement report. The method further includes a step of determining, from the detected visibility, that handover of the user device to the first wireless communication network is required. The method further includes a step of transmitting a handover command to the second wireless communication network.

Abstract: Systems and methods include an access layer to perform handovers for a User Equipment (UE) using a mobility status of the UE. A source access node (e.g., a femto cell, small cell, or a macro cell) establishes a first network connection with the UE. Based on a mobility status of the UE, the source access node selects either a small cell access node or a macro cell access node as a target node for connecting to the UE with a handover (e.g., by establishing a second network connection with the UE). The UE may have a medium mobility status or a high mobility status and, in response, be connected to the macro cell access cell for continuous connectivity. Alternatively, the UE may have the low mobility status and, in response, a signal strength analysis of the access nodes may be performed to select the target node for the handover.
