    Abstract: A communication system that uses dual base station frame boundaries is provided. A base station is in communication with a core network of at least one service provider and user equipment. The base station includes a circuitry that is configured to set a UL physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) time frame boundary in alignment with a downlink (DL) PDSCH time frame boundary, process PUSCH communication signals in the PUSCH using the UL PUSCH time frame boundary, set an UL random access channel (RACH) time frame boundary at a select delay from an associated RACH time frame boundary within a UL PUSCH time frame, process RACH communication signals using the delayed UL RACH time frame boundary, and provide a timing advance command to a UE that communicated a UL RACH communication signal that accounts for a round trip latency in a fronthaul network connecting the base station and radio units.

    Abstract: In one embodiment, a local clock is synchronized to a master clock using a Kalman filter to determine state variables using a state transition matrix that includes at least one coefficient that is associated with a digital-to-analog converter (DAC), where the state variables include a unit step variable indicative of a unit step for the system. The local clock is controlled based on the state variables determined using the Kalman filter. The unit step is indicative of an amount by which the frequency of the local clock signal changes in response to a change in the digital input of the DAC.

    Abstract: An example communication system includes remote units to exchange radio frequency (RF) signals with mobile devices, RF signals comprising information destined for, or originating from, a mobile device, the remote units performing at least some physical layer processing for an air interface used by the remote units to communicate with the mobile device. The communication system also includes two or more controllers comprising real-time schedulers for assigning airlink resources to the mobile device for the information. The communication system also includes a coordination function coupled to the two or more controllers to coordinate assignments made by the real-time schedulers in the two or more controllers.

    Abstract: A communication system for statically allocating physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) resources on a PUCCH. The communication system includes a base station configured to exchange radio frequency (RF) signals with a plurality of user equipment terminals (UEs). The base station is also configured to identify two PUCCH resources, each sharing the same orthogonal code sequence and located in different resource block of adjacent slots of a subframe. The base station is also configured to statically allocate the two PUCCH resources to two of the UEs, where both UEs are legacy UEs or Category-M1 (Cat-M1) UEs.

    Abstract: Embodiment are directed to systems and methods for use with a central radio access network (C-RAN) comprising a plurality of controllers and a plurality of radio points. Each of the controllers is configured to determine if that controller should serve as a timing master for the controllers and the radio points and, if that controller should serve as the timing master, synchronize the local clock of that controller with a master clock source over a backhaul network and transmit synchronization messages from that controller over a fronthaul network for reception by the other controllers and the radio points and for use by the other controllers and the radio points in synchronizing the local clocks thereof with the local clock of that controller.     Abstract: Systems and methods for flexible antenna configurations and beamforming are provided. In one example, a system includes: at least one controller configured to implement at least some functions for one or more layers of a wireless interface used to communicate with UEs; remote unit(s) communicatively coupled to the at least one controller; and antenna elements communicatively coupled to the remote unit(s), each respective antenna element oriented in a respective direction different than other antenna elements. The at least one controller is configured to: determine a location of a UE in a cell of the system and/or channels between the antenna elements and the UE; select antenna element(s) for use in transmitting downlink signals to the UE based on the location of the UE and/or the channels between the antenna elements and the UE; and transmit downlink signals to the UE via the selected antenna element(s) in a first time period.

    Abstract: One embodiment is directed to determining a composite precoder for transmitting to a UE using a group of one or more of the radio units by doing the following: for each of a plurality of subsets of the radio units, transmitting separate reference signals from the different antennas of only the radio units included in that subset; receiving subset-specific preferred precoder index reports from the UE for at least each individual radio unit included in the group of one or more of the radio units; determining the composite precoder for the UE using the subset-specific preferred precoder index reports from the UE for at least the one or more radio units included in the group; and using the composite precoder for transmitting to the UE using the one or more radio units included in the group. In some embodiments, each of the subsets includes less than all of the radio units.
