Abstract:
The invention comprises organo silicon compounds of the general formula where each R is a phenyl or methyl radical, and a method of preparing the above compounds by reacting a compound of the general formula R3SiC6H4X with a compound of the general formula R2SiCl2 in the presence of an alkali metal, e.g. sodium, potassium or lithium, where R has the above significance and X is a halogen atom. The compounds may be prepared by condensing the above reactants in a Grignard reaction. In the examples compounds of the general formula where both R radicals are methyl and phenyl radicals and where one R is a methyl and the other a phenyl radical, are prepared.
Abstract:
The invention comprises (1) silanes of the formula [(HO)cR]bSiR1a , and (2) siloxanes containing units of the formula with or without other units of the formula wherein each R is a tri- or tetra-valent hydrocarbon or hydrocarbon ether radical and is bonded to the silicon atom via a silicon carbon bond, R1 is monovalent hydrocarbon radical free from aliphatic unsaturation, and each R11 is a monovalent hydrocarbon or halohydrocarbon radical free from aliphatic unsaturation, a and n are 0-3, b is 1 or 2, c is 2 or 3, and all the hydroxyl groups are primary. Typical [(HO)cR] groups are (HOCH2)2CHCH2CH2-, Specified R1 and R11 groups are alkyl, aryl, alkaryl, aralkyl and cycloalkyl, and R11 may in addition be halogenated derivatives of these; many examples are given. The compounds may be prepared by reacting a hydroxy olefinic compound with a silane or siloxane containing silicon-hydrogen bonds in the presence of a platinum catalyst. Many examples are given; in typical Examples (9C) the silane (CH3)2SiH2 is reacted with (HOCH2CH2)3CH=CH2 to give and in (11A) a siloxane comprising the units (CF3CH2CH2)2SiO is prepared. Uses: Curing agents for isocyanate prepolymers, preparing polyurethane rubbers and making varnishes.
