Abstract: A vehicle includes a pressure control device for controlling a pressure at a battery of a vehicle and a method of controlling the pressure of the battery. A support plate is disposed at a first side of the battery. A pressure plate disposed at a second side of the battery opposite the first side. The pressure plate movable with respect to the support plate to control the pressure of the battery. A cam disposed at the pressure plate is configured to rotate to move the pressure plate with respect to the support plate. A cam shaft rotates the cam to move the pressure plate. A motor generates a rotation at the cam shaft.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure include a battery management system that actively limits the operational voltage of a cell to avoid a cell pressure surge in response to an indicator of battery cell degradation. An exemplary battery management system can include a memory, computer readable instructions, and one or more processors that perform operations that include: measuring a first cell pressure of a cell of the battery pack at a reference voltage and measuring a second cell pressure of the cell of the battery pack at the reference voltage. A moving average of cell pressure progression is determined from the first cell pressure and the second cell pressure. Responsive to the moving average of cell pressure progression exceeding a cell pressure progression threshold, the cell of the battery pack is identified as a degraded cell and an estimate of remaining cycles for the degraded cell is determined.

Abstract: A system for control of a battery system includes a processor connected to the battery system and configured to perform, in real time during a charging process, acquiring a set of charging parameter measurements, estimating a dynamic performance variable related to an electrochemical phenomenon occurring within the battery system during the charging process, and selecting a stored charging profile from a stored relation based on the charging parameter measurements. The processor is further configured to perform applying a charging current to the battery system based on the selected stored charging profile, inputting the charging parameter measurements, the stored charging profile and the stored relation to a learning agent, and evaluating the stored charging profile according to a reward-based learning process, the learning process including estimating a performance value associated with the stored charging profile. The processor is configured to periodically update the stored charging profile based on the learning process.

Abstract: A method of diagnosing a propulsion system implements a top-down hierarchical examination procedure, in which the propulsion system is analyzed as a whole to determine if the propulsion system is healthy. Data from a first set of vehicle sensors is compared to a system-healthy data cluster to determine if the propulsion system is healthy or unhealthy. If the propulsion system is unhealthy, then a plurality of subsystems of the propulsion system are each analyzed at a first examination level using selective data from the sensors to identify one of the subsystems as an unhealthy subsystem. A plurality of component systems of the unhealthy subsystem are then analyzed at a second examination level using other selective data from the sensors to identify one of the component systems of the unhealthy subsystem as an unhealthy component system.

Abstract: A method controls multiple continuous actuators to achieve a discrete mode of operation in a system. The method may include determining a desired output state of the system, including processing a control input set for the multiple continuous actuators via a dynamical predictive model of the system, and then processing the control input set via the dynamical predictive model to determine possible control solutions for achieving the desired output state of the system at a calibrated future time point. The method may include using a cost function logic block to identify, from among the possible control solutions, a lowest-cost control solution for executing the discrete mode at the future time point, processing the lowest-cost control solution through a real-time optimization logic block to determine an optimized solution for the discrete mode, and then executing the optimized solution at the future time point.
