Abstract: A system in an electric or hybrid vehicle includes two or more battery packs to power one or more motors of the vehicle to move the vehicle. A controller dynamically activates an operational mode of the vehicle during vehicle operation, the operational mode being one of a plurality of possible operational modes. Each of the possible operational modes defines which of the two or more battery packs are connected to the one or more motors and, based on two or more of the two or more battery packs being connected to the one or more motors, also defines an interconnection among the two or more of the two or more battery packs. The plurality of possible operational modes includes a first operational mode defining a series connection between the two or more battery packs and second operational mode defining a parallel connection between the two or more battery packs.

Abstract: A vehicle includes a pressure control device for controlling a pressure at a battery of a vehicle and a method of controlling the pressure of the battery. A support plate is disposed at a first side of the battery. A pressure plate disposed at a second side of the battery opposite the first side. The pressure plate movable with respect to the support plate to control the pressure of the battery. A cam disposed at the pressure plate is configured to rotate to move the pressure plate with respect to the support plate. A cam shaft rotates the cam to move the pressure plate. A motor generates a rotation at the cam shaft.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure include a battery management system that actively limits the operational voltage of a cell to avoid a cell pressure surge in response to an indicator of battery cell degradation. An exemplary battery management system can include a memory, computer readable instructions, and one or more processors that perform operations that include: measuring a first cell pressure of a cell of the battery pack at a reference voltage and measuring a second cell pressure of the cell of the battery pack at the reference voltage. A moving average of cell pressure progression is determined from the first cell pressure and the second cell pressure. Responsive to the moving average of cell pressure progression exceeding a cell pressure progression threshold, the cell of the battery pack is identified as a degraded cell and an estimate of remaining cycles for the degraded cell is determined.

Abstract: An example method includes receiving, at a module management unit (MMU) associated with a battery cell, a battery cell parameter measurement associated with the battery cell. The MMU in is communication with a battery radio frequency module via a first link. The method further includes performing, by the MMU, a first function based at least in part on the battery cell parameter measurement to generate a first signal, and transmitting, from the MMU, the first signal to the battery radio frequency module via the first link. The method further includes performing, by the battery radio frequency module, a second function based at least in part on the first signal to generate a second signal. The method further includes transmitting, from the battery radio frequency module, the second signal to a controller, and performing, by the controller, a third function based at least in part on the second signal.

Abstract: An aftertreatment assembly includes a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) device having a catalyst and configured to receive an exhaust gas. A controller is operatively connected to the SCR device. The controller having a processor and a tangible, non-transitory memory on which is recorded instructions for executing a method of model-based monitoring of the SCR device. The method relies on a physics-based model that may be implemented in a variety of forms. The controller is configured to obtain at least one estimated parameter, and at least one threshold parameter based at least partially on a catalyst degradation model. The catalyst degradation model is based at least partially on a predetermined threshold storage capacity (ΘT). A catalyst status is determined based on a comparison of the estimated and threshold parameters. The operation of the assembly is controlled based at least partially on the catalyst status.

Abstract: A vehicle includes two or more battery packs configured to power a motor. A controller is configured to dynamically activate an operational mode during operation. The operational mode is one of multiple possible operational modes including a first operational mode defining a series connection between the two or more battery packs and second operational mode defining a parallel connection between the two or more battery packs. The connection between the battery packs is controlled by a first plurality of switches. A plurality of low voltage loads are connected to a subset of the battery packs in the battery packs such that a power output of the subset of the battery packs provides full power to the plurality of low voltage loads. The plurality of low voltage loads are connected to only the subset of the battery packs in both the first operational mode and the second operational mode.
