    Abstract: An electronic device for use in a machine type communication (MTC) relay device includes circuitry having: a receive signal path to receive data from at least one MTC device; and a transmit signal path to forward processed data, based on the data, to an evolved NodeB (eNB), wherein at least one of: (a) the data is received via Device-to-Device (D2D) sidelink; (b) the MTC relay device is a relay node and the data is received via a relaying link; or (c) the MTC relay device is a multi-radio access technology (multi-RAT) capable small cell device and the data is received via WiFi, Bluetooth, Long-Term Evolution-Unlicensed (LTE-Unlicensed), or mmWave communication.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for communicating in a cellular communications network, including provision of a user equipment comprising processing circuitry to: receive from a first cell a control signal comprising a physical Time Division Duplex Uplink-Downlink configuration indicator channel (PTCICH); decode from the PTCICH a Time Division Duplex Uplink-Downlink (TDD UL-DL) configuration; and communicate with the first cell having applied the TDD UL-DL configuration in respect of subframes associated with the first cell, wherein: the PTCICH spans less than or equal to 32 Resource Elements. Also user equipment comprising processing circuitry to: receive a control signal from a first cell; decode the control signal received from the first cell thereby to determine a second cell TDD UL-DL configuration; and communicate with the second cell having applied the second cell TDD UL-DL configuration in respect of subframes associated with the second cell.

    Abstract: Technology for an eNodeB to communicate with a user equipment (UE) using a self-contained time division duplex (TDD) subframe within a wireless communication network is disclosed. The eNodeB can process, for transmission to the UE, a DL self-contained time division duplex (TDD) subframe comprising an extended physical downlink shared channel (xPDSCH), an extended physical downlink control channel (xPDCCH), a downlink (DL) spacing signal, and a guard period, wherein the xPDSCH, the xPDCCH, the DL spacing signal, and the guard time are located within the DL self-contained TDD subframe prior to an extended physical uplink control channel (xPUCCH). The eNodeB can process, an uplink (UL) self-contained TDD subframe, received from the UE, having a UL spacing signal located after an extended physical uplink shared channel (xPUSCH).

    Abstract: An eNB (or other base station) comprising one or more processors may generate a plurality of channel status activation indicators. The eNB's processors may encode the plurality of indicators into a Downlink Control Information (DCI) codeword, may scramble the cyclic redundancy check bits of the DCI with a predetermined sequence, and may generate the DCI codeword to the UE as part of a DCI transmission on a physical control channel. A UE (or other mobile handset) comprising one or more processors may process a DCI transmission from the eNB, the DCI transmission including a DCI codeword. The UE's processors may decode a plurality of channel status activation indicators from the DCI codeword, may check if the cyclic redundancy bits of the DCI are scrambled with a predetermined sequence, and may trigger a plurality of physical layer activation-and-deactivation circuitries based on the plurality of channel status activation indicators.
