Abstract: An illumination device includes a housing including an opening portion, a wavelength converting component which is disposed inside the housing and radiates wavelength-converted light having a different wavelength from that of a laser beam after the laser beam enters the component, an optical film which covers the opening portion and has optical properties such that the transmittance for the wavelength-converted light is 80% or more and the transmittance for the laser beam at the peak wavelength is 80% or less of the transmittance for the wavelength-converted light at the peak wavelength, and a light diffusing structure which is disposed on at least part of the inner wall of the housing and diffusely reflects the laser beam reflected at least by the optical film.

Abstract: Alight emitting device (A) includes a laser light source (1) that emits laser light (100), a housing (2A) that includes a bottom wall (3) and a side wall, and a first wavelength converter (20) provided on the side wall, the first wavelength converter (20) containing a first phosphor. The bottom wall of the housing is irradiated with the laser light emitted from the laser light source, and the first phosphor is excited by diffused light of the laser light diffused by the bottom wall. With such a configuration, the light emitting device (A) improves color uniformity and chromaticity flexibility while increasing power density of output light.

Abstract: A wavelength converter includes: inorganic phosphor particles; translucent non-fluorescent light emitting inorganic particles; and an inorganic binder, wherein the inorganic phosphor particles and the translucent non-fluorescent light emitting inorganic particles are bound to each other by the inorganic binder, an average particle size of the translucent non-fluorescent light emitting inorganic particles is equal to or more than an average particle size of the inorganic phosphor particles, thermal conductivity of the translucent non-fluorescent light emitting inorganic particles is larger than thermal conductivity of the inorganic phosphor particles, a refractive index of the translucent non-fluorescent light emitting inorganic particles stays within a range of ±6% of a refractive index of the inorganic phosphor particles, and fluorescence is emitted upon receiving excitation light.

Abstract: A wavelength conversion member converts a wavelength of laser light. The wavelength conversion member includes a substrate having reflectivity with respect to the laser light, and a phosphor layer including a phosphor for converting the laser light into light having a longer wavelength than that of the laser light, the phosphor layer being on the substrate. The phosphor layer includes a plurality of concave parts, each having a depth of 50% or more and 80% or less with respect to a film thickness of the phosphor layer and an opening width of 50 μm or more, on a surface of the phosphor layer, the surface irradiated with the laser light. A distance between adjacent concave parts of the plurality of concave parts is smaller than a spot diameter of the laser light to be emitted to the surface of the phosphor layer.

Abstract: A wavelength conversion member includes: a substrate; and a wavelength converter that converts color of incident light, the wavelength converter being provided on a surface of the substrate. The wavelength converter has: inorganic phosphor particles which convert the color of the incident light; and a binder layer that fixes the inorganic phosphor particle to one another, the binder layer including at least one type of metal oxides with a melting point of 800° C. or less. The substrate and the wavelength converter are fixed to each other by the binder layer of the wavelength converter.
