    Abstract: A control system for cleaning and monitoring a sensor assembly disposed externally on a vehicle is provided and includes a contaminant detection/identification sub-system that measures a resonant frequency of the sensor assembly to detect contaminants disposed on an exposed surface of the sensor assembly. A cleaning sub-system is provided and includes cleaning modes that expel the contaminants from the exposed surface of the sensor assembly. A temperature monitoring device monitors a temperature of an actuator disposed in the sensor assembly and a fault detection device detects faults in the sensor assembly.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for sensorless trapezoidal control of brushless DC motors provide effective high-torque startup and low speed operation without the use of Hall effect sensors or encoders during motor operation. The systems and methods also provide the ability to boost signal-to-noise ratio for motor startup and low speed operation via an augmenting supply voltage.     Abstract: An apparatus for mitigating contamination of an optical device comprises an open-topped, closed-sided, and closed-bottomed housing cup partially defining a protected volume to enclose the optical device. A housing cap encloses a top of the housing cup and partially defines the protected volume. The housing cap includes a top collar having an open central aperture. A top cover laterally spans the central aperture of the top collar. An interface structure circumscribes the top cover to suspend the top cover downwardly into the housing cup from the top collar. The interface structure prevents direct contact between the top cover and the top collar.

    Abstract: A method of regenerative braking includes providing an electric motor including at least one stator and a rotor, a speed of the rotor, a motor controller that regulates a current level in the stator winding, a power inverter which controls an energy flow to the stator terminal, and an energy storage system (ESS) which exchanges energy with the motor. A battery management circuit is between the power inverter and the ESS, and a processor has an associated memory storing a regenerative braking (RB) algorithm. The RB algorithm during braking causes the motor controller to execute determining an RB torque value from the rotor speed that maximizes regenerative braking current, and the power inverter is used to redirect the RB current to maximize a power transfer from the motor to the ESS.

    Abstract: A method of controlling an electric motor (motor) includes providing a processor having an associated memory storing a stator resistance (Rs) estimation (RSE) algorithm that is programmed to implement the RSE algorithm to execute steps including injecting a current waveform at an arbitrary frame of reference into the stator using a field-oriented-control (FOC) motor controller including an Id controller and an Iq controller, and measuring current and voltage values from the motor responsive to the injecting.     Abstract: A method of ultrasound flow metering includes applying a first and second pulse train to an ultrasound transducer pair (T1, T2) positioned for coupling ultrasonic waves therebetween. Responsive to the first pulse train applied to T1, T1 transmits an ultrasonic wave received as received ultrasonic wave (R12) by T2 after propagating through fluid in a pipe. During the pulse trains, R12 and R21 build up in amplitude to provide excitation portions. The pulse trains are terminated, so that R12 and R21 decay as a damped free oscillation. Windowing is applied to R12 and R21 to generate windowed portions. A signal delay between t12 and t21 (ΔTOF) is calculated using only windowed portions, and a fluid flow is calculated from the ΔTOF.

    Abstract: A method of normalizing phase measurements for a motor using a normalizing phase measurements (NPM) algorithm that a processor implements to cause a motor controller coupled to stator terminals of the phases to execute forcing a set of input current or voltage vectors (set of input vectors) including repeating the forcing after rotating the rotor through a full mechanical cycle to generate resulting current or voltage samples (resulting samples) of non-normalized phase A and phase B waveforms. The magnitude of the input vectors are sufficiently small to not move the rotor. A maximum value (x_max) and a minimum value (x_min) are determined for each of the non-normalized phase A and phase B waveforms. An offset value and normalization scale factor (NSF) are determined from the max and min values. The offsets and NSFs are applied to the non-normalized phase waveforms to generate normalized phase A and phase B waveforms.

The applying of the sequences can include applying a first sequence to the transducer based on a first set of sequence parameters, applying a second sequence to the transducer based on a second set of sequence parameters, and applying a third sequence to the transducer based on a third set of sequence parameters.
