    Abstract: An image forming device is disclosed that is able to prevent halt of operations due to full memory occupation, and prevent the full occupation of the memory. The image forming device includes a reading unit; an image data storage unit; a vacancy waiting unit that, when allocating a storage area for storing image data in the image data storage unit, waits until the storage size of a vacancy in the image data storage unit becomes greater than a predetermined value when allocation of the storage area fails; a failure processing unit that, when allocating the storage area for storing the image data in the image data storage unit, performs failure processing when allocation of the storage area fails; and a control unit that controls one of the vacancy waiting unit and the failure processing unit according to image forming conditions in the image forming device.

    Abstract: An image forming apparatus is disclosed. The image forming apparatus comprises an input unit through which a condition for reading image data of a document is input, a reading unit to read the image data under the reading condition, a first storage unit to store the image data read by the reading unit, a second storage unit to store information indicative of a relationship between the reading condition and an estimated volume of the image data to be stored in the first storage unit, a data volume estimating unit that estimates a volume of the image data to be read based on the reading condition and the information stored in the second storage unit, and a determining unit to determine whether to read the image data based on the estimated data volume and a volume of the image data that have already been stored in the first storage unit.

    Abstract: A phenyl ester is produced by allowing benzene, a carboxylic acid and molecular oxygen to react with each other in the presence of a catalyst comprising (A) palladium, (B) at least one element selected from elements of groups 13, 14, 15, and 16 and the fourth to sixth periods of the periodic table, and (C) at least one element selected from elements of groups 3, 4 and lanthanoid elements of the periodic table. Preferably, element (B) is selected from elements of group 16 and the fourth to sixth periods of the periodic table, and element (C) is contained in a metal oxide form in the catalyst. The catalytic activity can be maintained at a high level, and a phenyl ester is stably produced. The phenyl ester can be converted to phenol by a conventional procedure.
