    摘要: A composition includes a diene rubber and a metal phosphate ester of the formula: M being a metal with an oxidation state of +3 or +4, and R1 and R2 are independently selected from any organic moiety including hydrogen, except R1 and R2 cannot both be hydrogen. In addition, a method of making a rubber composition includes combining a solvent and a phosphate ester and mixing these to form a solution. A source of metal ions is then added to the solution. The metal in the source of metal ions is selected from the group consisting of metals with an oxidation state of +3 or +4. The product is then is combined with a diene rubber composition to form a useful article, such as the tread of a tire.

    摘要: The present invention teaches a method for enabling the formation of a high damping, soft polymer gel. The method includes: reacting a poly(alkyl vinylether-co-maleimide) polymer with a maleated polyalkylene and an alkyl diamine under substantially dry conditions sufficient to form a polyalkylene grafted poly(alkyl vinylether-co-maleimide) polymer product; and, dispersing the polyalkylene grafted poly(alkyl vinylether-co-maleimide) polymer product with an extender oil sufficient to form the gel. The present invention also contemplates a polymer gel composition, a polymer composition and an article manufactured from the polymer gel composition.

    摘要: The present invention teaches a method for enabling the formation of a high damping, soft polymer gel. The method includes: reacting in a suitable solvent a poly(alkenyl benzene-co-maleic anhydride) and a primary amine to form a poly(alkenyl benzene-co-maleimide) polymer. The poly(alkenyl benzene-co-maleimide) polymer while remaining in solvent is grafted with a maleated polyalkylene through the use of a grafting agent such as an alkyl diamine to form a polyalkylene grafted poly(alkenyl benzene-co-maleimide) polymer product. The solvent is then removed from the polyalkylene grafted poly(alkenyl benzene-co-maleimide) polymer product and the polymer is mixed with extender such as oil sufficient to form the gel. During oil extension the graft copolymer is further crosslinked due to the presence of additional alkyl diamine.

    摘要: A method is presented for making alkoxy-modified silsesquioxanes (AMS) or co-alkoxy-modified silsesquioxanes (co-AMS,) comprising the steps of (a) combining as a reaction mixture (i) water, (ii) an acid-stable solvent for the water, (iii) a solid strong cationic hydrolysis and condensation catalyst, and (iv) a trialkoxysilane compound, (b) allowing the reaction mixture to react for about 0.5 hours to about 200 hours to form the alkoxy-modified silsesquioxanes; and (c) recovering the alkoxy-modified silsesquioxanes from the reaction mixture. The use of solid strong cationic catalysts in this reaction system is advantageous because they remain as solids throughout the reaction, allowing simplified separation of the solid catalyst from the soluble AMS or co-AMS products, resulting in total or near total recovery of the AMS or co-AMS products, the products being free of, or substantially free of residual acid catalyst, as well as virtual total recovery of the catalyst for recycling. The improved AMS and co-AMS compounds, vulcanizable rubber compounds containing them, and a pneumatic tire having a component made from the vulcanized rubber compounds are also presented.
