    摘要： A method of making a chemical-resistant concrete composition, namely a quartz-based casting composition, is provided. The quartz-based casting composition provides excellent resistance to attack by chemicals, including weak and strong acids. The quartz-based casting composition is useful as concrete in various construction applications where corrosion resistance is needed. The casting composition includes a dry component and a wet component. The dry component includes about 25% to about 100% by weight quartz and the corrosion resistance increases with increasing quartz content.

    摘要： An adjustable form used for forming or repairing a refractory lining includes an adjustable frame constructed from a plurality of intersecting beams, at least some of which are adjustable, and a form connected to the adjustable frame. The frame can be adjusted in at least one direction and, preferably, in more than one direction. By properly adjusting the frame, the adjustable form can be used to form a refractory lining in different metal containment devices varying in dimensions, and can also be used to repair existing refractory linings. The adjustable form is inserted into a metal containment device at a distance from the floor and walls of the metal containment device, and refractory material is poured into the space between the adjustable form and the metal containment device.

The fluted openings interrupt and remove inclusions from molten metal passing through the baffle, using a plurality of obstructive peaks and valleys located at the perimeters of the openings. The fluted openings also include central portions which are not obstructed by the flutes, through which molten metal can flow in a regular fashion.

    摘要： A process for reinforcing porous refractories with fillers, such as carbon particles, is provided. First, filler particles are mixed with a liquid resin to produce a liquid mixture. The mixture is allowed to seep into the pores of the refractory, preferably by immersing the refractory in said mixture in an evacuated tank. The refractory can be removed from the mixture and excess mixture can be allowed to drip from the refractory. The refractory is then cured, preferably by heating. The refractory is strengthened by the process to better withstand heat fluctuations encountered, for example, in the steel refining process.

The slurry composition includes about 45-80% by weight alumina, about 10-30% by weight silicon carbide, and about 10-50% by weight colloidal silica. In one aspect, the alumina component comprises a material selected from the group consisting of brown fused alumina, white fused alumina, tabular alumina, calcined alumina, and mixtures thereof. In another aspect, the composition includes fumed silica at 2-5% by weight. The composition may also include a setting agent at 0.05-2% by weight.
