    摘要: An apparatus for seamlessly activating an on-demand function related to a fluid-driven instrument connects to an output of control valve regulating system pressure during normal operation of the instrument. The apparatus includes a fluid-operated bistable circuit that is switchable from a standby mode to an actuating mode by a brief drop in system pressure. In the actuating mode the circuit acts on a switch or valve to activate the function. Turning off system pressure to a longer time returns the circuit to its standby mode. The circuit includes a two-port biased actuator responsive to pressure imbalance between its ports, which are separately pressurizable through, respectively, an actuator-controlled valve and a flow control module.

    摘要: A modular multi-function selector valve assembly for controlling the flow of fluids for a plurality of dental handpieces. Each of the modules is functionally associated with one of such handpieces and, in response to the absence or presence of pilot air pressure, the multiple valves of that module simultaneously open or close passages for drive air, chip air, and water, as well as for other fluids such as exhaust air and gauge air. The modules are disposed in side-by-side relation with each other and each module is transversely divided into control and valve sections. A plurality of main and secondary flow passages are formed in the sections, and one side of each section is also provided with at least one channel communicating with certain of such passages. Flexible gaskets, interposed between adjacent modules and also between respective sections of each module, perform the multiple functions of preventing leakage from the main and secondary passages, combining with the channels to define additional flow passages, and serving as diaphragm valves for controlling fluid flow. In the embodiment disclosed, the module sections, along with their passages and cnannels, are formed by injection molding, the flexible gaskets between such sections and between successive modules are all identical, and the clamping plates which are used to secure the modules in side-by-side relation are identical but reversely oriented relative to each other.

    摘要: A speed control system for dental handpieces in which a sleeve or tube of pliable material defines an elongated deformable passage. The passage communicates at one end with a source of gas (air) under pressure and, at its opposite end, is vented to discharge a continuous stream of gas whenever the unit is in operation. When the resilient sleeve is squeezed anywhere along its length, back pressure is created which acts upon a pressure-responsive pilot valve, the pilot valve in turn regulating the speed of the dental handpiece in accordance with the amount of back pressure developed.
