In a charging process of a shaft furnace, in particular of a blast furnace, batches of charge material are typically discharged in cyclical sequence into the furnace from a top hopper using a flow control valve. A method and system is proposed for adjusting the flow rate of charge material in such a process. Pre-determined valve characteristics for certain types of material are provided, each indicating the relation between flow rate and valve setting for one type of material. According to the invention, a specific valve characteristic is stored for each batch of charge material, each specific valve characteristic being bijectively associated to one batch and indicating the relation between flow rate and valve setting of the flow control valve specifically for the associated batch. In relation to discharging a given batch of the sequence the invention proposes: using the stored specific valve characteristic associated to the given batch for determining a requested valve setting corresponding to a flow rate setpoint and using the requested valve setting to operate the flow control valve; determining an actual average flow rate for the discharge of the given batch; correcting the stored specific valve characteristic associated to the given batch in case of a stipulated deviation between the flow rate setpoint and the actual average flow rate.

The system includes a remote wireless communication control machine and a submerged arc furnace reactive compensation device. The remote wireless communication control machine further includes a MS-RSCM302 security communication module integrated with a MS-3G network communication module, and a MS-NC2 serial port conversion module. The submerged arc furnace reactive compensation device includes a control cabinet and a capacitance automatic compensation cabinet. The control cabinet comprises a MS-RSCM302 security communication module, a MS-NC2 serial port conversion module, a DVPEH2 PLC controller, a programmable multi-function network instrument and a touch screen; while the capacitance automatic compensation cabinet comprises multiple compensation units. The present invention performs remote Internet communication and data collection via cable modem, wireless transmission and 3G, while remote monitoring and data reading on each site are realized through installation of customized software in the computers and smart phones, to further remotely manage the actual operation status of the submerged arc furnace reactive compensation device and to solve such maintenance burdens as tedious on-site maintenance and long maintenance time.

Apparatus and method for obtaining accurate sonic input data from a metallurgical furnace, for accomplishing accurate control of a lance injecting oxygen and/or other substances into the melt. A remotely located hydrophone is placed in sonic communication with a liquid circuit cooling the lance. Sound levels and frequencies are picked up through the liquid, and transmitted to a programmable logic controller which generates control signals operating the lance. An associated real time analyzer compares the sonic signature of the input data to predetermined sonic signature data retained in memory, and adjusts lance operation through the programmable logic controller accordingly in order to operate the furnace optimally. Sonic transmission is more accurate, and the hydrophone is more protected from the harsh furnace environment due to its remote location and employment of liquid sound transmission, when compared to other microphone arrangements.

The invention relates to the cooling of hot, layered, granular material supported on an air permeable grate through which cooling air passes constantly. Some zones of the material layer have a higher temperature than other zones. Pulses of additional cooling air are passed through the higher temperature zones at such velocity as to enhance cooling and to relayer the material at such zones. In this way the degree of recuperation of the grate cooler can be substantially improved.

A control scheme for a furnace can use real-time and historical data to model performance and determine relationships between different data and performance parameters for use in correcting suboptimal performance of the furnace in real-time. Operational parameters can be logged throughout the cycle for all cycles for a period of time in order to establish a baseline. This data can then be used to calculate the performance of the process. A regression analysis can be carried out in order to determine which parameters affect different aspects of performance. These relationships can then be used to predict performance during a single cycle in real-time and provide closed or open loop feedback to control furnace operation to result in enhanced performance.

Provided is a method of controlling combustion of a regenerative heating furnace. The method controlled includes: a first step of sensing the temperature inside the furnace by a temperature sensor inside the heating furnace; a second step of receiving the measured temperature value inside the furnace, comparing the measured temperature value with a set reference temperature value, and outputting, to a sequence controller, an analog signal corresponding to a difference between the measured temperature value inside the furnace and the set reference temperature value; a third step of controlling combustion, and amounts of fuel, air, and discharged combustion gas of each of the burners by the sequence controller by a program set according to the outputted value in the second step; a fourth step of measuring the pressure inside the heating furnace due to combustion gas according to a combustion load; a fifth step of comparing the measured pressure value with the reference pressure, and outputting, the sequence controller, an analog signal corresponding to a difference between the measured pressure value and the reference pressure; and a sixth step of controlling, according to the outputted value of the fifth step, the discharge amount of combustion gas set in the third step by the sequence controller.

The disclosed methods and systems for inspecting and repairing vessels include a laser used to project a laser beam into a hot furnace or vessel, a laser reader to measure a point cloud formed when the laser light reflects from the wall of the furnace, means for selecting those points in the cloud that are more relevant, and using the points to produce a 3D image that corresponds to the geometry of the interior of the furnace or vessel. The disclosed systems and methods further include means for comparing the 3D geometric data corresponding to the interior of the vessel with 3D geometric data provided as a reference, generating a 3D repair trace based on the comparison, and controlling a spray gun for applying refractory material according to the trace by taking into account a set of physical variables related to the vessel and the refractory material.
