Abstract: Novel ligands for metal complexes that are useful as phosphorescent emitters in OLEDs are disclosed. The ligands contain an aryl covalently bonded to the coordinating metal where the aryl group has at least two different alkyl side chains that are linked ortho and para compared to the linkage of the coordinating metal on that aryl group.

X29, X30, X31, and X32 are independently CRH or N;
Y is selected from the group consisting of O, S, NR, and CRR′;
the maximum number of N atoms that can connect to each other within each ring is two;
with the proviso that R1 does not connect to ring B, and R2 does not connect to ring A, and wherein at least one of RC and RD of Formula A is a direct bond or an organic linker, one of RE and RF of Formula B is a direct bond or an organic linker, or one of RG, RH, and RN of Formula C is a direct bond or an organic linker.-

Abstract: A compound having a metal coordination complex structure, where the compound is capable of functioning as a phosphorescent emitter in an organic light emitting device at room temperature is disclosed. The compound has a first ligand coordinated to a metal. The free-state of the first ligand has a first triplet energy T1 of EL at 77K, while the compound has a first triplet energy T1 of E at 77K, and the difference in energy (ΔE) between E and EL is ≤250 meV. The compound has a triplet emission spectrum with a FWHM value of no more than 45 nm. Organic light emitting devices, consumer products, and formulations containing the compounds are also disclosed.

each of RA and RB independently represents zero, mono, or up to a maximum allowed substitution to its associated ring;

Abstract: An apparatus that includes a plurality of OLEDs provided on a first substrate is disclosed. Each OLED includes a first electrode, a second electrode disposed over the first electrode, and an organic electroluminescent material disposed between the first and the second electrodes. The apparatus also includes a first capping layer that is disposed over the second electrode of at least a first portion of the plurality of OLEDs such that the first capping layer is optically coupled to at least the first portion of the plurality of OLEDs, and a second capping layer. The second capping layer is disposed over the second electrode of at least a second portion of the plurality of OLEDs such that the second capping layer is optically coupled to the second portion of the plurality of OLEDs but not the first portion of the plurality of OLEDs, and the second portion of the plurality of OLEDs is different from the first portion of the plurality of OLEDs.
