Abstract: An apparatus includes a route circuit and a stop-start circuit. The route circuit is structured to estimate a number of charging locations for an energy storage system of a vehicle for a planned route. The stop-start circuit is structured to determine a stop-start strategy for an engine of the vehicle based on the estimated number of charging locations and expected charges to be received by the energy storage system. The stop-start strategy defines a frequency and duration of using the engine in an on-mode during operation of the vehicle along the planned route. The stop-start circuit is further structured to determine that the energy storage system fails to receive an expected charge at one of the charging locations, and update the stop-start strategy to compensate for failing to receive the expected charge by increasing use of the engine in the on-mode during operation of the vehicle along the planned route.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides an engine stop/start control system for a vehicle comprising a first engine restart module configured to set a restart frequency and duration of an engine in response to a sensed ambient temperature, a second engine restart module configured to control the engine in response to a sensed characteristic temperature associated with the engine, a third engine restart module configured to control the engine in response to occurrence or non-occurrence of at least one expected charging event along a predefined route, a fourth engine restart module configured to control the engine in response to a state-of-charge of an energy storage device, and a route optimization module configured to set and adjust a proposed route to a destination that results in reduced engine usage.

Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods include a stop/start module in operative communication with an engine. The stop/start module is configured to determine a target start/stop ratio for an engine based on an operating parameter, determine an actual start/stop ratio for the engine based on a determined number of times that the engine is turned off in response to a determined number of stopping events, activate an inhibiting condition in response to the actual stop ratio being greater than the target stop ratio at a beginning of a driving event, and prevent the engine from turning off during a stop event in response to determining that the inhibiting condition is active and that a stopping event has occurred.

Abstract: An internal combustion engine operatively coupled with a variable load and an electronic control system operatively coupled with the internal combustion engine. The electronic control system is structured to receive an engine speed target value, a first engine speed feedback value, and a second engine speed feedback value. The electronic control system processes the first engine speed feedback value and the second engine speed feedback value to determine a feedforward correction value. The feedforward correction value is determined to correct for first variation between the second engine speed feedback value and the first engine speed feedback value due to variation in the variable load and to distinguish between the first variation and a second variation due to operation of the internal combustion engine. The control system processes the first engine speed feedback value target, the second engine speed feedback value and the feedforward correction value to determine an engine fueling command, and controls fueling of the internal combustion engine using the fueling command.

Abstract: A system and method for controlling automatic start/stop operations for an engine. While the engine is shutdown, operation of the engine may be automatically started upon expiration of a threshold time limit or in response to one or more adverse or deteriorated conditions of a power storage device, such as, for example, a state of health, state of function, or state of charge of the power storage device. After the engine has been automatically started, the ability of the controller to subsequently automatically stop the operation of the engine may be disabled until at least one secondary condition is satisfied. Upon satisfaction of the at least one secondary condition, the controller may again be enabled to at least automatically stop the operation of the engine.

Abstract: An apparatus includes a stop/start module in operative communication with an engine. The stop/start module structured to determine whether a stopping event has occurred, determine whether an inhibiting condition is activated, turn off the engine for at least a portion of time in response to determining that a stopping event has occurred, and determine an actual stop ratio for the engine based on a number of times the engine is turned off in response to determining the occurrences of stopping events. Turning off the engine is inhibited in response to determining that an inhibiting condition is activated. The inhibiting condition is activated based on the actual stop ratio for the engine being greater than a target stop ratio at a beginning of a driving event. The target stop ratio is based on an operating parameter.
