Abstract:
A system and method are disclosed for indicating to an aircrew of an aircraft an unstable approach to a desired landing. When the energy state of the aircraft exceeds a threshold, a suggested airspeed in consideration of the energy state is displayed. Additionally, a landing spots on a displayed runway are shown indicating where the aircraft would land in view of the energy state and where the aircraft is recommended to land in view of the current aircraft type and weight. A text message may also be displayed that conveys the ability of the aircraft to land.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for enhanced display of obstacles in a combined vision display are provided. The system comprises a display unit and an enhanced vision system configured to generate first signals representative of enhanced vision images. Data storage device contains obstacle data representative of obstacles. Synthetic vision system is configured to selectively retrieve obstacle data from data storage device and generate second signals representative of synthetic vision images of one or more obstacles. Processor is in operable communication with display unit and coupled to receive first and second signals and configured, in response thereto, to: overlay the synthetic vision images of the one or more obstacles over the enhanced vision images and command display unit to display the synthetic vision images of the one or more obstacles overlaid over the enhanced vision images. The overlaid synthetic vision images of the one or more obstacles may be visually highlighted.
Abstract:
Systems and methods to accurately display lateral deviation symbology in offset approaches to runways is provided. A system for on-aircraft display of lateral deviation symbology for use in offset approaches comprises means for generating a conformal video display representation of an aircraft's current position, means for notifying a flight crew of the existence of an offset approach, means for displaying an extended runway center line, and means for displaying an approach line.
Abstract:
A method and system for optimizing an aircraft heading for an intercept of a flight plan has been developed. The method includes activating a flight plan intercept advisory function on a flight management system (FMS) for the aircraft when an aircraft deviates from the active flight plan of the aircraft. The flight plan intercept advisory function identifies intercept points of the active flight plan that is based on an aircraft heading that is selected by a pilot of the aircraft. The advisory function calculates predicted compliance with flight performance and operational parameters of the aircraft at each intercept point. The predicted compliance of flight performance and operational parameters of the aircraft at each intercept point are then displayed to the pilot of the aircraft.

A controller for selectively displaying information from raster charts is disclosed. The controller is configured to: retrieve raster data; assign a different priority level to each of a plurality of types of raster data; cause raster data having a predetermined priority level to be displayed with first augmentation information and prevent from being displayed raster data not having the first predetermined priority level, wherein the first augmentation information comprises database data retrieved from a database and is assigned a first predetermined augmentation information priority level; generate a hidden layer of second augmentation information comprising database data from the database that is correlated to a geographical location of the displayed raster data and assigned a second predetermined augmentation information priority level; and cause the hidden layer of second augmentation information to be displayed over a portion of the displayed raster data when the geographical location is selected.

Systems and methods are disclosed that receiving ground traffic data from a traffic computer, and enhanced vision system, EVS, imaging data from at least one EVS camera. A target area is determined in the EVS imaging data based on position data of the ground traffic data. Graphics processing is performed that is confined to the target area to enhance visibility of ground traffic in the EVS imaging data in the target area, thereby generating enhanced EVS imaging data. The graphics processing is selected from at least one of contrast enhancement, edge detection and template matching and highlighting of an outline of the ground traffic. A display is generated that is to be displayed on the display device based on the enhanced EVS imaging data and the EVS imaging data.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided for displaying horizontal situational indicator (HSI) for a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft. The system includes an aircraft control panel in a cockpit of the VTOL aircraft and a HSI digital display that is located on the aircraft control panel. The HSI digital display shows a fixed target symbol representing an intended landing point, a speed vector indicator that represents an approach direction and a predicted hover point relative to the fixed target symbol that is calculated based on the speed, acceleration and turn rate of the VTOL aircraft, and a dynamic target symbol representing a positional change in the predicted hover point in response to instantaneous dynamic changes in flight conditions for the VTOL aircraft.

Systems and methods for calibrating a synthetic image on an avionic display. The method includes receiving a synthetic image frame generated by an avionic display system and a sensor image frame from a forward-facing onboard sensor system. Object recognition is performed on the sensor image frame to generate a first search region for a first Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) marking, defined as a first search region-FAA marking pair. The sensor image frame and the first search region-FAA marking pair are processed using a deep learning method (DLM) to determine for the first FAA marking of the first search region-FAA marking pair, each of: a position deviation calculation, an orientation deviation calculation, and a synthetic image distortion factor. The synthetic image frame is then updated and rendered in accordance with the position deviation calculation, the orientation deviation calculation, and the synthetic image distortion factor, thereby calibrating the synthetic image frame.
Abstract:
A flight deck system and a method for providing a flight crew with a ground path to a destination at an aerodrome for taxiing is disclosed. The flight deck system includes a controller configured to: set a destination point on the ground at the aerodrome for an airborne aircraft that is preparing to land; estimate a stopping point for the aircraft on a runway; and predict a ground path for the aircraft to follow at the aerodrome from the runway to the destination point. To predict the controller is further configured to: determine a starting point on the runway for the predicted ground path; and determine a runway exit point to a taxiway. The controller is further configured to cause the predicted ground path to be displayed on a flight deck display device.
Abstract:
Methods and systems are provided for assisting operation of a vehicle by monitoring a physiological state of an operator and automatically initiating a remedial action responsive to a change in the physiological state. One method involves determining a biometric indication of the current physiological state based on measurement data from one or more sensing devices, determining an activity-based indication of the current physiological state based on output signals from one or more user interface elements and determining an aggregate indicator of the current physiological state as a function of the biometric indication and the activity-based indication using one or more weighting factors that vary during operation of the vehicle. One or more remedial actions are automatically initiated based on the aggregate indicator, for example, in response to a change in physiological state indicated by the value of the aggregate indicator.
