    摘要: A panel including a starch foam core which is composed of starch, which is one of resilient foam or hardened foam; and which has a form selected from the group consisting of a plurality of strands which are straight and in essentially parallel alignment with one another, and a plurality of strands which are bent and arranged in an undulating path; and at least one outer layer composed of sheet material and provided directly on a surface of the starch foam core in engaging contact therewith; wherein the panel is prepared in a continuous process. A method for preparing the panel includes preparing a starch foam in an extruder; forming the starch foam core by extruding the starch foam in a form selected from the group consisting of strands which are straight and in essentially parallel alignment with one another, and strands which are bent and arranged in an undulating path; immediately after forming the starch foam core, directly and continuously introducing the starch foam core into direct surface contact with the at least one outer layer; and compacting the starch foam core and simultaneously bonding the starch foam core directly to the at least one outer layer to form the panel.

    摘要: The present invention relates to an improved apparatus for forming injection molded plastic articles having an inner wall portion. The apparatus includes a mold cavity portion and a mold core portion defining a cavity space in the shape of the plastic article to be formed. The apparatus further includes at least two hot runner nozzles for injecting molten plastic material into the cavity space. The nozzles are preferably offset to outer portions of the mold core portion so as to provide an increased space in the mold core portion in which cooling conduits, inlets and the like can be placed to increase the cooling capability of the mold core portion. The offsetting of the nozzles also provides the mold core portion with increased strength. Each of the nozzles communicates with inner wall portion of the cavity space via a hook-shaped passageway and an inside gate. Additionally, each of the nozzles has a metal portion for maintaining plastic material in the hook-shaped passageway in molten condition.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a bi-metallic clamping system for holding a heater firmly on the external surface of a hot runner nozzle body. The band heater-clamp arrangement of the present invention is formed by a cylindrical sheath which houses the heater coil. The sheath has an inner sleeve formed from a material having a relatively high thermal expansion and an outer sleeve formed from a material having a relatively low thermal expansion. The heater coil is positioned between the two sleeves. The desired clamping effect is produced by providing at least one axial slot in the inner sleeve. It has been found that during heating, the outer sleeve expands less than the inner sleeve due to the differences in the thermal expansion coefficients of the materials used to form the sleeves. This produces radial forces in the inner sleeve that are redirected into circumferential forces by the axial slot. These circumferential forces in turn cause the slot to close and thereby achieve the desired clamping effect. The band heater-clamp arrangement of the present invention has utility in injection molding machines having hot runner systems for providing liquified plastic material from a source to an injection gate.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a hot runner sealed edge gated injection molding system. The system includes a mold cavity plate with at least one injection gate and a nozzle assembly having a tip end and at least one melt channel for transporting molten plastic material. The system further includes an annular seal ring which fits snugly over the tip end of the nozzle assembly. The seal ring has at least one melt channel and at least one orifice for transporting molten plastic material from the at least one melt channel in the nozzle assembly to the at least one injection gate in the mold cavity plate. In a preferred embodiment, the seal ring is formed from a material having a thermal coefficient of expansion lower than the thermal coefficient of expansion of the material forming the nozzle. As a result, the nozzle when heated will expand at a greater rate than the seal ring resulting in an effective sealing arrangement with the seal ring being pressed against the mold cavity plate and being gripped by the nozzle.
