A method for fabricating fiber-reinforced composite structures, including centrifuge rotors, by resin transfer molding (RTM) is disclosed. The method involves loading reinforcing fibers into a mold and then injecting resin into the mold to coat the fibers to form the composite structure. Two types of reinforcing fibers are used—fabric preforms at the surfaces of the structure and chopped fibers at the interior of the structure. Also disclosed is a fiber-reinforced composite structure comprising a skin layer of reinforcing fabric, chopped fibers distributed throughout the interior of the structure, and epoxy resin that binds the fabric and chopped fibers together into a fiber-reinforced composite structure. The resin transfer molding method is especially useful for fabricating composite centrifuge rotors.

A dynamic, efficient, and full-duplex wireless local network is presented. The local central station equipment is implemented by implementing a Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) technique on local inbound data and a Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) technique on at least local outbound data. Conversely, each subscriber unit implements the TDMA technique on local outbound data and the FDMA technique on local inbound data. In so doing, wireless two-way communications can be established between the central station, subscriber units, and remote stations wherein the allocated carrier frequency band is fully utilized and the outbound data bandwidth can be dynamically adjusted to accommodate the bandwidth requirements of different communication applications.

A voltage regulating circuit has a clamp up circuit and a clamp down circuit operating in tandem. The clamp down circuit receives the unregulated voltage and an activation signal and in response thereto generates a first output signal at an output node in the event the unregulated voltage exceeds the first output signal. The clamp up circuit receives the unregulated voltage and an inverse of the activation signal and in response thereto generates a second output voltage at an output node in the event the unregulated voltage is below the second output voltage. The output node of the clamp down circuit is connected to the output node of the clamp up circuit. Thus, the output voltage is regulated to be between the first output voltage and the second output voltage.

A new and improved display control system which includes a logic arrangement for causing auxiliary light information projected from a hand held light generating device upon a projected primary image to be integrated into the primary video image upon command from a user. A display control circuit causes the underlying primary image to be altered to include an accentuating image indicative of the path of travel followed by a spot of auxiliary control light as it is directed by a user via the hand held light generating device. A color control circuit responsive to user input commands enables the accentuating image to be displayed in one of at least eight primary colors. An erase control circuit also responds to user input commands to enable the user entered accentuating images to be deleted selectively individually or in total simultaneously.

A logic arrangement compresses the high resolution information by eliminating certain horizontal and vertical pixel image information during one frame cycle and by eliminating certain adjacent horizontal and vertical pixel image information during the next frame cycle.

An I/O interface controller is disclosed which can be programmed to interact with a variety of interface protocols. The host side and the peripheral side of the interface controller are independently programmable. All significant operations are performed in a single chip gate array. The gate array includes registers for establishing control with peripheral devices and for transferring data between peripheral devices and the host. An arithmetic logic unit is used for calculation and data manipulation while an I/O operation is occurring. A condition code multiplexer evaluates the contents of registers within the single chip and instructs the sequencer to perform various operations based on these results. Strobe signals from a peripheral device, indicating that valid data is ready to be transferred, are quickly acknowledged by virtue of an asynchronous signal path. The strobe signal is also processed so that it may correspond with the internal clock of the I/O interface. An asynchronous event driver and recognizer mechanism is also disclosed. This mechanism enable the I/O interface controller to drive the host side and the peripheral side interfaces simultaneously.

A heart valve prosthesis is provided having a self-expanding multi-level frame that supports a valve body comprising a skirt and plurality of coapting leaflets. The frame transitions between a contracted delivery configuration that enables percutaneous transluminal delivery, and an expanded deployed configuration having an asymmetric hourglass shape. The valve body skirt and leaflets are constructed so that the center of coaptation may be selected to reduce horizontal forces applied to the commissures of the valve, and to efficiently distribute and transmit forces along the leaflets and to the frame. Alternatively, the valve body may be used as a surgically implantable replacement valve prosthesis.

A method and apparatus for securing networks, focusing on application in Fibre Channel networks. A combination of unique security techniques are combined to provide overall network security. Responsibility for security in the network is assigned to one or more designated entities. The designated entities deploy management information throughout the network to enhance security by modifying the capabilities and operational permissions of the devices participating in the network. For example, through network control: logical management access or physical I/O access may be limited on a per device or per I/O basis; and all devices and ports in the network operate only with other approved devices and ports. These designated entities can better manage network security by exploiting a unique link authentication system as well as a unique push-model secure distributed time service. The link authentication involves a multi-phase nonce exchange exploiting various derivations of the nonce and other information such as hashes and encryptions. The push-model secure time distribution departs from the traditional Fibre Channel pull mode time distribution and provides for secure and reliable distributed time so that various security attacks may be defeated.
