摘要:
A method is provided for manufacturing an inkjet nozzle. The method includes the step of depositing a plastics material layer on a substrate incorporating heater actuator circuitry. The plastics material layer is etched to form a nozzle rim defining an ink port through which ink can be ejected and a plurality of elongate actuator arms extending radially with respect to the nozzle rim. A tapered ink chamber may be etched in the nozzle body so that the ink port and ink chamber are in fluid communication with each other.

A method of fabricating a printhead integrated circuit includes the step of forming a first layer of a polymeric material on a substrate that incorporates drive circuitry. A heater element is formed on the first layer of polymeric material to be connected to the drive circuitry. A second layer of a polymeric material is formed on the heater element and the first layer such that the heater element is embedded in polymeric material. The polymeric layers are etched to define a plurality of radially extending bridging portions which terminate in a nozzle rim and a plurality of actuators which each extend between a respective pair of adjacent bridging portions and each terminate in a free end proximal to the rim. The substrate is etched so that the substrate and the actuators define a nozzle chamber in fluid communication with an ink ejection port defined by the nozzle rim.

An inkjet nozzle includes a substrate defining an ink chamber. A cover is mounted to the substrate and covers the ink chamber. The cover comprises a rim through which ink can be ejected. A plurality of fixed support arms supports the rim. A plurality of movable actuator arms are each located between an adjacent pair of fixed support arms. The actuator arms can move into the chamber to eject ink from the rim. The actuator arms extend radially outwardly from the rim and collectively have rotational symmetry.

A nozzle guard for a printhead is provided. The nozzle guard has a plurality of channels therethrough, each channel corresponding to a respective nozzle on the printhead such that, in use, ink droplets ejected from each nozzle pass through their respective channel towards a print medium. The channels have hydrophobic sidewalls such that ink droplets can rebound off them and be redirected.

A printhead assembly suitable for redirecting ejected ink droplets is provided. The printhead assembly comprises: a printhead including a plurality of nozzles for ejecting ink droplets onto a print medium, the plurality of nozzles being formed on an ink ejection surface of the printhead; and a nozzle guard positioned over the ink ejection surface, the nozzle guard having a corresponding plurality of channels therethrough, the channels being aligned with the nozzles such that ejected ink droplets pass through respective channels towards the print medium. The channels have hydrophobic sidewalls, such that ejected ink droplets can rebound and be redirected.

A printhead suitable for minimizing cross-contamination between nozzles is provided. The printhead comprises a substrate, which includes a plurality of nozzles for ejecting ink droplets onto a print medium. Each nozzle has a nozzle aperture, which is defined in an ink ejection surface of the substrate. The printhead also comprises a plurality of formations on the ink ejection surface. The surface formations are configured to isolate each nozzle from at least one adjacent nozzle, and typically take the form of enclosures surrounding each nozzle.

An inkjet printhead chip includes a substrate that defines a plurality of ink supply channels. A drive circuitry layer is positioned in the substrate. A plurality of nozzle arrangements is positioned on the substrate. Each nozzle arrangement includes a nozzle chamber structure arranged on the substrate and defining walls of a nozzle chamber in fluid communication with a respective ink supply channel. A deformable roof structure is arranged on the nozzle chamber structure. The roof structure is deformable on receipt of an actuating signal from the drive circuitry, reciprocally to reduce and enlarge a volume of the nozzle chamber. The roof structure defines an ink ejection port such that, upon such reduction and enlargement, a drop of ink is ejected from the ink ejection port.

An ink jet nozzle arrangement for a printhead is provided. The nozzle arrangement comprises a nozzle chamber for storing ink to be ejected, at least one moveable actuator paddle forming at least a portion of a first wall of said nozzle chamber, and an ink ejection nozzle defined in the first wall. Actuation of the actuator paddle causes ejection of ink from the nozzle.

A printer has a printhead comprising an array of nozzles. A nozzle arrangement has an ink chamber formed in a wafer substrate and one wall of said chamber having at least one flexible portion. The ink ejection port is formed substantially centrally on the wall with a rim surrounding it. The wall is adapted to move independently of said rim such that upon heating of the flexible portion of the wall, the wall bends into said ink chamber forcing ink therein out through the said ejection port.

An inkjet printhead chip includes a wafer substrate. A drive circuitry layer is positioned on the wafer substrate. A plurality of nozzle chambers is defined in the wafer substrate. A plurality of ink inlet openings is defined in the wafer substrate, in fluid communication with respective nozzle chambers. A plurality of nozzle chamber walls is opposite respective ink inlet openings and each defines an ink ejection port. A plurality of ink ejection actuators is connected to the drive circuitry layer. At least one actuator is positioned in each wall and is displaceable into the respective nozzle chamber to reduce a volume of the nozzle chamber and thus to eject ink from the nozzle chamber.
