This novel arrangement of the cleaning lamp and neutralizing electrode results in a significantly reduced occurrence of toner contamination by residual electric field attraction to operating and structural portions of the copying apparatus which are positioned about the photosensitive body.

An electrophotographic color image forming machine registers which a second color toner image on a first color toner image which has been previously formed on an image carrier to form a color image. The registered images are then transferred onto a recording sheet. The machine includes control apparatus that includes first and second exposure control modulators which respectively control an exposure amount of at least one of the first color toner images and the second color toner image. A smoothing processor controls at least one of a size and a position of at least one of the first and second color toner dot images within each of a plurality of pixels and a discriminator determines whether one of the size and the position of the dot image should be controlled. A hue corrector is provided which adjusts a ratio of the exposure amounts provided by the first and second exposure control modulators to control the first and second exposure control modulators on the basis of a discriminator result of the discriminator.

The present invention concerns a color image forming apparatus wherein toner images formed on a plurality of image carriers are primarily transferred onto an intermediate transfer object, and then, are secondarily transferred onto a recording sheet. The color image-forming apparatus includes a plurality of image carriers; a plurality of latent image forming devices to form electrostatic latent images on the image carriers; a plurality of developing devices to develop the electrostatic latent images with toner to form visible toner images on the image carriers; an intermediate transfer member, a longitudinal direction of which is arranged at substantially a vertical direction, and onto which the toner images formed on the image carriers are sequentially transferred in such a manner that the toner images overlap relative to each other so as to form a color toner image on the intermediate transfer member; and a transferring device to transfer the color toner image formed on the intermediate transfer member onto a transfer sheet. The intermediate transfer member and the image carriers are integrated into a rack, and the rack is drawable in substantially a horizontal direction in respect to a mainframe of the color image-forming apparatus.

An upper part of the color image printer is movable relative to the main body of the printer. The transfer drum is located at an upper position of the photoreceptor in the printer, so that a recording sheet can be easily removed from the printer when the recording sheet is jammed in a circumferential portion of the transfer drum.
