The casing string includes an isolation valve in an open position and the actuator. The method further includes sending a wireless instruction signal to the receiver. The shifting tool engages the actuator in response to the receiver receiving the instruction signal. The method further includes operating the actuator using the engaged shifting tool, thereby closing the isolation valve and isolating the formation from an upper portion of the wellbore.

A rotating control device can be positioned with the riser, sealing the rotating control device with the latch assembly and removably latching the rotating control device to the latch assembly and to the riser. The latch assembly can be remotely actuated. The latch assembly can provide an auxiliary safety mechanism to provide a backup actuation mechanism to unlatch the rotating control device from the latch assembly. The latch assembly can be bolted to the riser. Alternately, the latch assembly can be latched with the riser using a similar latching mechanism as used to latch the latch assembly to the rotating control device. A pressure transducer protector assembly can protect a transducer for monitoring wellbore pressure in the riser. A remote indicator panel can indicate the status of the latch assembly.

The apparatus generally includes a spear and a clamping head, both of which are mounted to a top drive. The spear and the clamping head can be engaged to transmit torque therebetween from the top drive. In addition, an aspect of the invention provides variable height wickers positioned on slips to enable use of the slips with variable inner diameter (ID) and weight casing without deformation or rupture of the casing. Still further, a casing collar is also provided to provide reinforcement to the casing in the area of slip contact with the casing ID.

    摘要: The present invention generally provides a reduced downtime maintenance apparatus and method for replacing and/or repairing a subassembly in sealing equipment for oil field use. The invention allows the removal of rotating portions of a rotary drilling head without having to remove non-rotating portions. The reduction in weight and size allows a more efficient repair and/or replacement of a principal wear component such as a packer. Specifically, the packer in a rotary drilling head can be removed independent of bearings and other portions of the rotary drilling head. Furthermore, because of the relatively small size and light weight, the packer can be removed typically without having to use a crane to lift a rotary BOP and without disassembling portions of the drilling platform. In some embodiments, the packer can be removed with the drill pipe without additional equipment. Furthermore, the packer can be removed remotely without necessitating manual disengagement typically needed below the platform. The invention also provides a fluid actuated system to maintain a pre-load system on the bearing.

    摘要: The milling and whipstock assembly includes a whipstock having a ramp portion for directing the milling assembly to cut a secondary borehole in an existing cased borehole. The milling assembly includes a shaft having rigid and flexible portions and an under gauge cutting tool disposed on the lower end of the flexible portion and a full gauge cutting tool disposed on the rigid portion. A third under gauge cutting tool is disposed on the flexible portion in between the full gauge and under gauge cutting tools. In operation, the milling and whipstock assembly is lowered into the borehole and then the milling assembly is detached from the whipstock assembly. As weight is placed on the milling assembly, the ramp portion places a side load on the lower under gauge cutting tool causing the flexible portion of the shaft to flex and pivot allowing the under gauge cutting tool to come into engagement with the wall of the casing allowing the under gauge cutting tools to cut a window in the cased borehole.

    摘要: The present invention, in certain embodiments, discloses a whipstock system which is hydraulically settable in a tubular or wellbore and mechanically retrievable. In one aspect it is a "through-tubing" system. In certain aspects systems according to this invention have a concave to a lower end of which is secured an anchor housing bendable member, movable connection, or with an anchor body therein that is in fluid communication, via a flexible hose within the anchor housing, with a fluid channel running through the concave. An upper end of a mandrel is housed in a recess in the anchor body. The mandrel's lower end may extend out from the anchor housing. A setting slip is disposed below the anchor body within an opening in the anchor housing. A pusher sleeve below the slip is selectively displaced up by a piston below the pusher sleeve to push the slip out from the opening in the anchor housing to set against an interior of a tubular or of a wellbore. Fluid under pressure flows, e.g. from a pump system at the earth's surface, through the concave, through the anchor body, to and through the mandrel, exiting the mandrel beneath the piston to move the piston upwardly, thereby moving the slip out from the housing. Initially a shear pin or shear screw holds the slip in place.The present invention also discloses a retrieval tool for retrieving the whipstock system from a wellbore. The retrieval tool, in one aspect, has a member that is inserted into and held within a corresponding recess in the top of a concave while an opposed portion of the tool abuts a side of the concave opposite the recess to securely grip the concave and the apparatus suspended therefrom for retrieval.
