    摘要: A method and apparatus for purifying water by employing steam generated by heating water in a lower section of a container to heat water in an upper section of the container. The lower section is separated from the upper section by a filter. A pressure differential is created across the filter such that a portion of the steam forms a steam pocket below the filter and the remaining portion passes through the filter to heat the water in the upper section. A microprocessor control system is operable to control heating of the water in the lower section and withdrawal of purified water from the upper section to maintain the size of the steam pocket between upper and lower limits.

    摘要: A condenser is provided that makes a liquid droplet of a liquid phase medium drop effectively, the liquid phase medium residing in a lower end opening of a medium passage of the condenser, thereby preventing any degradation in the performance of the condenser. In the condenser, vapor, which is supplied to a cooling pipe (14) connected to cooling fins (16), is cooled, condensed into water, and recovered in a water-collecting tray (21) provided beneath the cooling pipe (14), and a needle-shaped member (24) provided so as to face the lower end opening of the cooling pipe (14) ruptures the droplet that, due to surface tension, resides in the lower end opening of the cooling pipe (14) and makes it drop into the water-collecting tray (21). A plate-form filter can be used instead of the needle-shaped member (24), and in this case not only can the droplet be made to drop from the lower end opening of the cooling pipe (14) more effectively due to the capillary action of the filter, but also dust contained in the water can be removed.

    摘要: A distillation unit (10) includes a filter (116) through which feed water passes before it is introduced into a rotary heat exchanger (32) for evaporation and subsequent condensation. During a normal mode of operation, liquid that has not evaporated as a result of passage through the rotary heat exchanger's evaporation chambers (56) is recirculated for reintroduction into those chambers, together with a minor amount of feed liquid from the filter to make up for evaporation. At the same time, some filtered feed water is fed into one side of a transfer pump (166), where it slowly accumulates. Periodically, though, during short flushing-mode periods, the erstwhile recirculating liquid is redirected at a relatively high flow rate through the filter (116) in the reverse direction, thereby flushing it. In flowing rapidly from the filter, it also rushes into the other side of the transfer pump (166), forcing the feed liquid that had accumulated in it to take the place of the recirculating liquid as the major constituent of the liquid sprayed into the evaporation chambers. This periodic flushing reduces particulate loading in the filter.

A scanning sprayer (140) supplements this steady spray with spray from nozzles (142 and 144) into only a few of the evaporation chambers at a time, visiting all of them cyclically. The overall rate of spray from the two sources thus combined to spray the chamber cyclically maintains proper wetting even though on average it is lower than the rate that would be required of a constant-rate spray into all of the evaporation chambers.

    摘要: A distiller (10) that employs a rotary heat exchanger (32) introduces water to be evaporated into evaporation chambers (56). During most of its operation, it collects the water that has passed through the evaporation chamber (56) without evaporating, and it reintroduces the thus-collected liquid back into the evaporation chamber, where it also adds a minor amount of unrecirculated feed liquid to make up for evaporation and concentrate removal. Simultaneously, a minor amount of feed liquid is fed into one side of a transfer pump (116). During this mode of operation, the impurities concentration in the recirculating liquid tends to increase as a result of the evaporation of pure water vapor. Periodically, the erstwhile recirculating liquid is redirected to the other side of the transfer pump (116), where it causes the feed liquid stored in the transfer pump's first side to be fed without accompanying recirculant liquid into the rotary heat exchanger's evaporation chambers. After a short time, the normal flow is restored, and the liquid from the rotary heat exchanger that had been redirected into the transfer pump's other side is discharged slowly as distiller concentrate. The resultant impurities concentration in the concentrate output can be as much as nearly twice the average impurities concentration experienced by the heat exchanger's evaporation-chamber surfaces.

    摘要: A portable, potable-water generator for producing high-purity liquid water by condensation of dew from ambient air. The generator employs an air filter to remove particulates and aerosols from the incoming air. An enclosed heat absorber cools the filtered air to its dew point and collects droplets of condensate into a combined condensate collector and storage reservoir. Before discharge, the collected dew is treated in a bacteriostat loop to destroy adventitious living organisms and to filter out undesirable and dangerous contaminants. A recirculation loop provides the ability to recirculate stored condensate during periods of inactivity. Further, quick disconnect fittings and variable length flexible tubing allows use of the invention to serve remote dispensers and/or appliances and allows use of municipal water treated through the apparatus in low condensate situations. All the subsystems are fail safe-interlocked to disable the generator immediately and prevent delivery of water if any one of them stops functioning within predetermined safe limits.

    摘要: An apparatus for treating a waste solution generated when a photosensitive material is processed by an automatic developing machine includes a waste solution reservoir which is maintained at a constant level. A drum, partially immersed in the waste solution, is rotated to coat its surface. The drum is heated to produce a waste vapor. The waste vapor is condensed by a condenser and filtered and solid wastes are scraped from the surface of the drum. The condenser has a drain tank for collecting condensate and a non-condensable gas component. The interior of the drain tank is sealed to form an air tight seal and has a vent for exhausting the non-condensable gas component from the interior portion to the outside. The air vent includes an absorption tower to treat the non-condensable gas component.
