    摘要: An apparatus and process are provided for concentrating oil and gas production brine. The apparatus comprises a brine feed system, a hot air generation system, a concentrated brine collection and recirculation system, and an evaporation tower. The evaporation tower includes a brine inlet coupled to the brine feed system, a hot air inlet coupled to the hot air generation system and positioned below the brine inlet, a steam discharge, a concentrated brine outlet, a plurality of distillation trays, and a concentrated brine reservoir in the lower portion of the tower. The evaporation tower also has a distributor at the brine inlet adapted to distribute brine onto the trays and may have a plurality of spray nozzles disposed above the hot air inlet to distribute a spray of recirculated concentrated brine. Water evaporates from the brine and the entering hot air temperature is modulated by evaporation.

    摘要: Systems and methods related to desalination systems are described herein. According to some embodiments, the desalination systems are transiently operated and/or configured to facilitate transient operation. In some embodiments, a liquid stream comprising water and at least one dissolved salt is circulated through a fluidic circuit comprising a desalination system. In some embodiments, a portion of the desalination system (e.g., a humidifier) is configured to remove at least a portion of the water from the liquid stream to produce a concentrated brine stream enriched in the dissolved salt. In certain cases, the concentrated brine stream is recirculated through the fluidic circuit until the concentrated brine stream reaches a relatively high density (e.g., at least about 10 pounds per gallon) and/or a relatively high salinity (e.g., a total dissolved salt concentration of at least about 25 wt %). In certain embodiments, additional salt is added to the concentrated brine stream to produce an ultra-high-density brine stream (e.g., a brine stream having a density of at least about 11.7 pounds per gallon). Some aspects relate to a system that is configured to promote energy efficiency by recovering heat from the recirculated concentrated brine stream upon discharge from the fluidic circuit.

    摘要: A method for removing dissolved solids from a waste stream, such as that produced in flue gas scrubbing, through an evaporation-crystallization process operated at relatively low temperature. A waste stream is directed into an evaporator and heated at a temperature of less than 60° C. at a pressure below atmospheric pressure. The waste stream is concentrated through the evaporation process and forms a slurry stream having crystallized solids. At the low temperature of evaporation, the solids crystallize at substantially lower temperature and the solution has a substantially lower boiling point elevation than at atmospheric pressure. The slurry stream is directed to a solid-liquid separator where the crystallized solids in the slurry stream are separated, producing a solid cake and mother liquor.
