    摘要: The invention provides a supercharged engine including a supercharger and an intercooler disposed downstream of the supercharger. The engine has a geometric compression ratio equal to or higher than 8.5. The supercharger is an internal compression type mechanical supercharger having a pressure ratio higher than 1.8 wherein the pressure ratio is defined as a ratio of a pressure at an inlet opening to a pressure at an exit opening of the supercharger. Intake valve closing timing of the engine supercharger is in the range of 50 to 100 degrees in crank angle as measured from bottom dead center, and an overlapping period during which both intake and exhaust valves open is equal to or below 17 degrees in crank angle wherein the intake valve closing timing is defined as the timing when valve lift is equal to or less than 1 millimeter, and the overlapping period is to be measured on the basis of a valve lift of zero.

    摘要: An engine is provided with a mechanical supercharger which is disposed in an intake passage of the engine and is driven by the output power of the engine. The supercharger is connected to and disconnected from the output power of the engine by a clutch. The engine has intake and exhaust valves which are opened and closed with an overlap time. A valve timing changing mechanism changes the overlap time in order to change the amount of air communicated between the intake and exhaust ports. A controller controls the valve timing changing mechanism and the clutch so that the amount of air communicated between the intake and exhaust ports is reduced and the supercharger is disconnected from the output power of the engine and does not operate when the operating condition of the engine is in a first operational range in which the amount of intake air is not more than a first preset value, the former is increased and the latter is connected with the output power of the engine so as to operate when the operating condition of the engine is in a second operational range in which the amount of intake air is not less than a second preset value which is larger than the first preset value, and the former is increased and the latter is disconnected from the output power of the engine when the operating condition of the engine is in a third operational range in which the amount of intake air is between the first and second preset values.

    摘要: An internal combustion engine may be driven in the suction mode as well as the supercharging mode. Switchover from the suction to the supercharging mode takes place with the accelerator pedal in a switchover position, and switchback to the suction mode is effected in the return switching position of the accelerator pedal. The switchover and switchback positions are offset with respect to each other with the accelerator pedal in a central position between its initial position and its final position. The arrangement is such that the switchover position is reached at the end of the suction mode at fully open throttle flap (full power position). Upon switchover the throttling of the supercharging flow (throttling begin position) is increased as compared to the end of the suction mode. This throttling of the supercharging is diminished by further actuation of the accelerator pedal in the direction of the final position. Corresponding switchback from the supercharging to the suction mode takes place when the accelerator pedal is in the switchback position at which the drive of the supercharger established by the engine shaft is interrupted and a change is made from the stronger throttling during the supercharging mode to the weaker throttling in the suction mode.

    摘要: Disclosed is an induction or supercharger system (16) for a piston engine (10) having a Roots type blower (14) for supercharging an air-fuel mixture from a carburetor (12) having primary and secondary throttle valves (60, 62). The induction system includes four ducts (50, 52, 54, 56) which converge at an end into a central area or valve chamber (58) having a butterfly valving member (68) disposed therein. The other end (50a, 52a, 54a, 56a) of the ducts communicate respectively with the carburetor, the supercharger inlet, the supercharger outlet, and the engine combustion chambers. The valves (60, 62, 68) are moved by a linkage mechanism (44) between positions respectively controlling air flow through the carburetor and through the four ducts to the engine. The linkage mechanism includes a lever (72) and linkage assemblies (74, 76) connected between the lever and the valves (60, 62) and (68) respectively. The linkage assemblies include springs (88, 102) which respectively move the throttle valves open and the butterfly valving member closed.
