    摘要: A supercharged internal combustion engine is drivably connected to a variable displacement supercharger operable to continuously supply varying amounts of an air mass to the engine in response to the varying power requirements of the engine. The variable displacement capability eliminates blowdown losses of fixed displacement superchargers and substantially reduces the need for throttling of the intake air. The device also presents an air-motoring mode that can recover a portion of the engine throttling losses as positive power returned to the engine crankshaft when the engine intake manifold is below atmospheric pressure.

    摘要: An eccentric movable vane pump includes a cylinder body, a first rotor, second rotors, and movable vanes of which the number is greater than or equal to 2. The first rotor is eccentrically disposed with the second rotors. One end of each of the movable vanes is rotatably connected to the first rotor, and the other ends of the movable vanes are rotatably connected to the second rotors. The first rotor is disposed on a main shaft. The cylinder body is provided with a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet respectively corresponding to an expansion area and a compression area of a space between adjacent movable vanes. The pump has a simple structure, high efficiency, low cost, multiple operation conditions, high stability, and a long service life, can operate in a high-speed/ultra-high speed range without being sealed by an elastic device, and has a small radial impact in operation.

    摘要: An induction system for a supercharged internal V-type combustion engine includes a monolithic continuous unitary casting housing a supercharger with a rotor and gear assembly operative to discharge pressurized air to a common bounding receiving plenum, through a first slidably-removable intercooler providing a first cooling, and then to a pair of second side intercoolers providing a second cooling within the bounded plenum and in fluid communication therewith. First and second intercoolers are secured within the monolithic housing. The monolithic housing provides a robust and stable housing of light weight and allows an exterior air cooling as well. Side walls of the supercharger are separate from and are spaced from air intake runners of a cylinder block. Air in the plenum is additionally cooled by convective surface cooling while being guided in an appropriate direction. The intercoolers are plumbed in parallel allowing for enhanced temperature management of the air flow in combination with the convective cooling. The monolithic housing includes rib elements for sound attenuation and strength while minimizing weight. This arrangement allows for enhanced cooling, and simplifies manufacture and service.

    摘要: Power-generation systems including a power plant and a power conversion unit including an energy recovery device and volumetric compressor are disclosed. In one embodiment, the volumetric fluid compressor has first and second meshed rotors and is configured to generate a stream of relatively high-pressure fluid including oxygen to the power plant. In one embodiment, the volumetric fluid energy recovery device having third and fourth meshed rotors, operatively connected to the compressor, and configured to be rotated by the exhaust gas or other fluid deriving energy from the exhaust gas. The system can additionally include a set of timing gears configured to operatively connect the first and second rotors of the compressor to the third and fourth rotors of the energy recovery device, and prevent contact between the first and second rotors and between the third and fourth rotors. The system may also include a rotation transferring link for operative connection between the compressor and the energy recovery device.

    摘要: A method of controlling the operating speed of an engine accessory driven by a belt connected to an engine crankshaft. A planetary gear set is interposed between the belt and the accessory, the planetary gear set having a planet gear carrier, at least one planet gear, a sun gear, and a ring gear. The sun gear is connected to an input mechanism of the accessory. The planet gear carrier is connected to the belt, via a pulley. The ring gear is connected to a generator. An excitation current is applied to the generator, which loads and slows the ring gear. This excitation current can be varied to provide a desired operating speed of the accessory.

    摘要: A novel combustion engine with turbine like properties is disclosed. The novel engine (10) comprises an air intake, a first compressor stage, coupled to the air intake, a second compressor stage, coupled to the first compressor stage, a transfer valve, placed between the compressor stages and an annular race. Within the annular race, toroidal piston travels and passes over the transfer valve. The valve, toroidal piston and race form a temporary combustion chamber that expands as the piston travels within the annular race. Compressed air and fuel are introduced into the temporary combustion chamber and ignited to release the chemical energy and force the turbine piston to travel faster within the annular race. The first compressor stage is rotatably coupled to a crank shaft, which drives the first compressor stage and connects to an armature, which also connects the turbine piston so that useful work can be extracted from the energy released from the combustion of the fuel-air mixture.

    摘要: A supercharger (10) is positioned in the valley of an automobile engine (60) so that it fits under the engine hood (25). The supercharger (10) has a low profile air inlet (14) at the top that passes air to an inlet tube (16). The height of the inlet tube (16) decreases and its width expands as the inlet tube (16) extends away from the air inlet (14) to keep a low profile while minimizing restrictions to airflow. The inlet tube (16) supplies air to a compressor (18) at the bottom. The pressurized air flows through a large and thin intercooler (24) directly above the compressor (18). The cooled air is fed to long and straight intake manifold runners (28) positioned above the engine heads (61, 62) of the engine (60). The supercharger (10) provides a large volume of low pressure and low temperature air charge to the engine (60).
