摘要: The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for extracting droplets of paint from the fine spray or mist in spray booths when sheet metal members or the like are sprayed, without the paint droplets adhering. A calcium chloride solution of 0.01 to 0.5% by weight and having a pH value of 8 to 9.5 serves as washing fluid. To perform this process, the spray booth and the like is followed by a settling or separating vessel in which the coagulated paint droplets floating up with air are separated from the thus regenerated wash solution which can be recycled.

摘要: Apparatus for electrostatically coating an elongated object of indefinite length which is aligned with the straight line path of the elongated object in a continuous manufacturing and finishing process. Electrostatic applicators are mounted to direct the coating into a substantially closed chamber at a portion of the elongated object passing therethrough. To substantially eliminate the explosive hazard occasioned by the use of an organic solvent-based coating material in the presence of electrical equipment, a combustibly inert atmosphere is maintained in the chamber and in an exhaust system leading therefrom. To maintain the electrostatic field, the coating chamber and associated coating equipment must be electrically isolated from ground.

摘要: A system is provided for extinguishing accidental fires in paint spray booths of the type wherein oil is used as the medium for eliminating extraneous paint mist and overspray, said system providing control over both the oil and the medium used for extinguishing the fire. In such a spray booth, oil from a self-contained reservoir located at the bottom of the booth is circulated over a plurality of baffles within the booth. Paint mist is drawn by flow of air into contact with the oil covered baffles, and the paint solids are thereby entrained in the oil and collected in the oil reservoir. An appropriate fire extinguishing system for such spray booth comprises a plurality of water fog nozzles within the booth that are activated in response to a fire, and which therefore discharge water into the reservoir. Pursuant to the invention, means are provided to control and preserve the oil which is displaced by water accumulating in the oil reservoir, to maximize fire-fighting efficiency, and to discharge excess water from the booth while safely retaining the oil.

摘要: A manifold is disclosed which prevents vapors created on the interior of a coater booth or the like from escaping into the atmosphere through openings into or out of the booth. The manifold comprises a hollow annular chamber situated around an opening and having apertures or holes through the smaller, radially inner wall. A baffle disposed interiorly of the manifold creates an air flow passage therein which extends in a type of spiraling manner from the holes in the radially inner walls, in a downwardly direction then around and under the radially inner wall, and then in an upwardly direction to an exhaust port for the vapors. A liquid spray nozzle spraying a precipitant downward in the downwardly extending portion of the vapor flow passage creates a vacuum which draws the vapors into the manifold through the holes in the radially inner wall, scrubs the vapors and causes the vapors to be expelled through the exhaust port where they can be controllably disposed of. A drain in the lower portion of the manifold allows the liquid precipitant to be disposed of.

摘要: A recirculating sprayer adapted for mounting on a vehicle is improved for use at increased travel speed and for operation in higher wind conditions by angling the solid spray streams forwardly or rearwardly from a direction transverse to the travel direction. The sprays are employed in criss-cross, opposite pairs, with the spray stream patterns of adjacent pairs of spray nozzles abutting or overlapping one another for full coverage of all upstanding weeds or crops in an area traversed by the sprayer. A series of collector mats or panels may be arranged transverse to the travel direction, with sprays trained thereon for contacting each weed twice in its upstanding position once by each spray of a pair; the weeds may also be contacted once more as they are bent forward to pass beneath the panels and a reservoir thereunder. The collector may also be arranged in panels parallel to the travel direction, for increased ease in negotiating sloping terrain. Spray liquid is collected from the collector panel(s) into reservoirs therebelow and is recirculated for reuse.

摘要: A method for coating a slender, cylindrical container with a thin, resinous coating by spraying powdered resin is disclosed. The technique involves spraying of finely divided resin particles entrained in a gas stream at a substantially uniform rate at a velocity of from about 20 ft/min. to about 1000 ft/min. from a nozzle. The container may be sprayed by directing a continuous flow of resin particles at an accurate, predetermined rate into the container to deposit a substantially uniformly distributed coating. Alternatively, a pulse of a predetermined quantum of resin may be sprayed into a container. The resin particles are caused to adhere to the container by preheating the container, by inducing an electrostatic charge on the resin particles, or a combination of both. The coating may be matured by preheating the container to a high temperature or by postheating the coated container at temperatures in excess of about 300.degree. F.

摘要: A machine for the coating of a strip material substrate, flat stock or the like has a plurality of spray coating guns applying coating material to the substrate. A sloping ceiling and nozzle support assembly causes any coating material deposited thereon to flow along these surfaces to the side of the substrate rather than collecting above the substrate and dripping on the substrate and degrading the desired finish. In a rotary coater, the sloping ceiling and nozzle support assembly can be combined into one rotating structure wherein centrifugal force arising from the rotation of the structure causes any coating material deposited on it to travel to its outer rotating edge where it is thrown clear of the substrate. Troughs over the entrance and exit openings of the coater collect coating material which would otherwise drip onto the substrate from above the openings and carry such coating material clear of the substrate.

摘要: A hood assembly for at least partially defining an enclosure in which two or more non-parallel rapidly moving air streams cooperate to entrain minute air borne particles in the enclosure to recover the latter and prevent the escape of the particles through an opening in the forward part of the enclosure. The air defining the air streams may in whole or in part be discharged to the ambient atmosphere substantially free of entrained air borne particles, or the air may be sequentially recycled through the enclosure. The hood assembly is particularly adapted for paint spray booths, but is equally useful and effective, when the air borne particles constitute smoke or fumes.
