    摘要: A method is disclosed for fixing certain dangerous substances into recyclable waste foundry sand so that they are less likely to leach out into the environment. The method uses a roasting process which causes the dangerous substances to form insoluble compounds with the sand. One example is shown where hazardous waste foundry sand which contains acetic acid soluble lead contamination is treated by this method. In this example the lead is believed to react with the sand during the roasting process forming compounds such as lead silicate which are insoluble to acetic acid. The amount of lead which may be leached out into the environment is reduced to a safe level according to the currently accepted test methods promulgated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The method may be applied to the conversion of waste foundry sand into reusable sand or landfill which are less likely to leach dangerous substances into the environment.

The agent consists essentially of an organosiloxane polymer fluid, comminuted aluminum, and a fluorocarbon solvent. Illustratively, the agent may include 0.6% by weight of the organosiloxane polymer fluid. The illustrative organosiloxane polymer has a viscosity of approximately 12,500 centistokes. The illustrative agent includes 3.6% by weight of an aluminum paste including approximately 65-75%, by weight, of finely divided pigment-grade aluminum and 25-35% of mineral spirits vehicle. The fluorocarbon preferably is a non-propellant grade fluorocarbon such as trichlorotrifluoroethane.

    摘要: In a process and a machine for moulding ceramic articles, the provision of a substantially moisture impervious foil between the mould surfaces and the clay blank and the disposal of the foil after its use as a waste by-product. A foil exhibiting predominant plasticity rather than elasticity is selected to secure effective operation of the invention. The clay blank is extruded in strand form at a rate of extrusion which is independent of the rate of feeding clay blanks intermittently into the mould and a temporary storage station provides buffer capacity between the extrusion and moulding steps. The machine has structure adapted to achieve this operation.

    摘要: Reinforced cement panels are produced between a fixed lower mould and a movable upper mould each having a moulding surface covered with filter cloth. Suction is applied through ports in the lower mould to extract air and residual water, reinforcement is placed on the lower mould, a layer of slurry of uniform thickness is applied by traversing a depositor over the lower mould, and the upper mould is rested on the surface of the slurry. Vacuum is applied through arched connections from upper parts of manifolds on the upper mould and through passages in the upper mould to the filter cloth thereof to withdraw moisture from the slurry to create an uncured panel. Water-containing foam is admitted through the ports in the lower mould to release the uncured panel, whereupon the upper mould is raised with the uncured panel held thereto, traversed to a different position to rest the uncured panel on a support. Water-containing foam is then admitted through the arched connections of the upper mould to the filter cloth thereof to release it from the uncured panel. The upper mould is surrounded by clamping strips which seat on the slurry at the boundary of the mould and provide an impervious seal in this region.

    摘要: This invention relates to the making of negatives intended for the production of bodies which contain cavities of predetermined shapes.The term "negative" signifies a disposable core member, for example as used in some molding techniques such as the lost wax process. The negative at least partly matches the cavities which latter form two independent systems of regularly distributed intersecting channels with the channels in any one same system intercommunicating via ducts which are themselves regularly distributed.The method according to the invention consists in stacking plates which are made of an easily disposable substance and are perforated with regularly distributed holes which leave between them continuous bands of said substance the intersections of which form nodes and the width of which is less than the maximum dimension of the holes: this stacking operation is effected in such a way that holes correspond with holes and nodes with nodes, and the plates are spaced apart from one another by spacers which are also made of an easily disposable substance and whose maximum cross-sectional area is the same as that of said nodes and which are positioned over each of said nodes.The invention also extends to the negatives whenever made by the method.

Fluid materials being cast into panels are received within forms which comprise a cured concrete bed defining a horizontal planar surface maintained at an elevated temperature. Following curing of the fluid materials cast into the forms, stripping of the panels from the form is facilitated by vertically movable side forming members and by bulkheads separating the cured materials into predetermined panel lengths.
