摘要： A telecommunications outlet with a visual indicator that informs a user that the outlet is capable of supplying power to a network device in a network system compliant with IEEE 802.3. The outlet includes a visual indicator which activates when the outlet receives a load verification signal in accordance with IEEE 802.3. A network core device transmits the load verification signal to the outlet to determine whether there is a qualified network device connected to the outlet, and the type of the connected network device for the purpose of transmitting the appropriate power level to the network device. If the load verification signal is not present at the outlet, the outlet is not capable of supplying power to a network device. The outlet includes a visual indicator and a visual indicator driver circuit. The driver circuit generates a driving signal in response to the load verification signal. Thus, when the load verification signal is present, the driver circuit generates the driving signal which causes the visual indicator to activate, thereby visually informing users of the outlet's capability of supplying power. The load verification signal may include a train of low power and low duty cycle pulses. The driver circuit may include a charge accumulating device to form a voltage by accumulating charges each time it receives a pulse from the load verification signal, and an oscillator to generate a driving pulse when the voltage is greater than a threshold. The driving pulse causes the visual indicator to activate.

摘要： A waiter paging system is provided for use in a restaurant. The system includes a plurality of table transmitters (there being one transmitter at each table) which transmit a “waiter call” signal and a plurality of pager units (there being one pager unit for each waiter). The pager unit notifies the waiter via a vibrator or buzzer that a request has been received and displays the request. In one embodiment, the system includes a central unit which receives the “waiter call” signal from the table transmitter and which effectively relays the “waiter call” signal to the pager units. In a second embodiment, there is no central unit. Rather, the waiter pager units receive the “waiter call” signal directly from the table transmitters. Each pager unit is associated with a set of tables (and hence table transmitters), each set of tables being fewer than all the tables in the restaurant. In either of the two systems, the set of tables with which an individual pager is associated can be selectively altered. In the first (centralized) system, the central unit can be selectively switched between a programming mode and a non-programming mode and includes means for altering the pager/table associations. In the second (non-centralized) system, the pager units are programmable, and can be switched between a programming mode and an operational mode.

A substrate with a permissive symbol or indicator printed thereon is covered by a liquid crystal display which is comprised of a series of separately activatable display segments which, when activated, block visual observation of the permissive indicator. When the container is opened and closed, initially all such display segments are activated, thus blocking or obscuring the permissive indicator. As the prescribed time interval passes, the successive display segments are sequentially deactivated, and when the prescribed time interval has expired, all such display segments are deactivated so that the permissive indicator is fully exposed to observation.
