摘要: An improved frame assembly for doors, windows and the like is disclosed. A frame receives a central panel which defines an edge about its exterior perimeter. The frame comprises a first and second skins in opposed relationship defining a cavity therebetween. The interior edge of the frame has internal support ribs which act in conjunction with the interior edge of the frame to grip the edge of the central panel while the exterior edges of the skins are separated by a sizable insert. The cavity between the skins is filled with a foamable insulating material which surrounds the edge of the central panel and forms a weathertight seal.

摘要: The invention relates to protective packaging of objects of a fragile nature, such as electronic components, optical components, and other delicate or fragile food objects, and comprises hollow protective container portions arranged to be positioned in a manner defining a hollow interior chamber for protectively packaging such fragile or perishable objects, with said container portions being provided with shaped inner liner parts having shaped recess portions formed in place therein in the presence of such packageable objects and at least partially engaging corresponding parts of such packageable objects, with the shaped inner liner parts comprising a multi- phase material of foamed-in-place compressible, plastic material interspersed with bubble-pack means having closely adjacent gas cells which are isolated cells. In one preferred form, each container portion is formed of laminated material of a novel high-strength-to-weight ratio type including high-strength stiffening portions and lower strength, extremely low-density, high-specific-volume filler material which, in one preferred form, includes either, associated with said panelling material and/or associated with said shaped liner parts a combustion-inhibiting material comprising particles which are preferably of a heat-responsive nature adapted to decompose when subjected to the heat of a combustion and to produce an effectively built-in fire extinguishing gas (which will also mean a fire-preventing gas), usually a halogen containing a substantial quantity of bromine and adapted to prevent combustion originating from other adjacent structures or to substantially inhibit same and to prevent combustion of the foam plastic material either in the panelling material or the multi-phase shaped inner liner parts.

摘要: An object to be packaged is suspended in an upwardly open mold whose walls are formed with an array of throughgoing perforations and lined with a gas-pervious sheet. A similarly perforated and lined cover is placed over the mold and foamable polyurethane material is poured into the mold through an elastic hose-like conduit connected to a filling aperture on the mold cover. This material expands within the mold completely filling the space around the object and thereby forms a fitted package around the object. The gas-pervious sheet material lining the mold may be a plurality of synthetic-resin panels formed of parallel inner and outer walls spaced apart by parallel webs defining between the inner and outer walls a plurality of parallel passages. These inner and outer walls are formed with throughgoing perforations opening into the passages so that as the synthetic-resin material expands it passes through the perforations on the inner walls only and projects into the passages.

摘要: The invention provides firstly a multi-tube conduit sheathed in synthetic resin foam, the surface of the foam providing the outer surface of the conduit; secondly a method of making the conduit involving the use of two coupling plates, with which the conduit ends are preferably provided, to define the ends of a forming head into which a molten mixture of synthetic resin and foaming agent is extruded to form the sheath, the tubes being secured at one end in holes formed in one plate and extending slidably through holes in the other plate; and thirdly a connecting device which includes one of the plates and further includes fittings which are partly inserted in the tube ends and pushed into enlarged cavities at the front or outside ends of the plate holes.

摘要: THIS INVENTION RELATS TO THE PREPARATION OF COMPOSITE ARTICLES OF MANUFACTURE AND TO THE ARTICLES SO PRODUCED. THE ARTICLES ARE IMPACT-RESISTANT, THREE-DIMENSIONAL AND RIGID. THE ARTICLES ARE COMPRISED OF TWO ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS: (1) A PLIABLE, HOLLOW PREMOLDED OUTER PLASTICS LAYER AND (2) AN ESSENTIALLY RIGID NON-CELLULAR ORGANIC PLASTICS STRUCTURAL BACKING MEMBER SOLIDIFIED IN THE HOLLOW INTERIOR OF THE PLASTICS SKIN, AND ESSENTIALLY SOLIDLY FILLING SAID HOLLOW INTERIOR. THE HOLLOW OUTER LAYER IS PREPARED IN A MANNER TO HAVE AN ACCESS OPENING TO ITS HOLLOW INTERIOR. A LIQUID PLASTICS COMPOSITION IS NEXT PREPARED IN A SEPARATE STEP THAT COMPRISES AN ORGANIC BINDER WHICH SOLIDIFIES AT ROOM TEMPERATURE, IN MOST CASES BY CONVERTING TO A THERMOSET STAGE. THIS LIQUID COMPOSITION IS THEN INTRODUCED THROUGH THE ACCESS OPENING INTO THE CAVITY OF THE PREMOLDED OUTER LAYER. THE LIQUID COMPOSITION IS THEN SOLIDIFIED IN A MANNER TO FILL ESSENTIALLY VOIDLESSLY AND FULLY THE CAVITY OF THE OUTER LAYER, THUS PRODUCING A DENSE TOUGH INTEGRAL ARTICLE OF MANUFACTURE HAVING THE SHAPE OF A PREMOLDED OUTER LAYER. ILLUSTRATIVE FOR THE OUTER LAYER MATERIALS ARE PLASTICIZED POLYVINYLCHLORIDE COMPOSITIONS, POLYETHYLENE AND RUBBERS. ILLUSTRATIVE FOR THE INTERIOR COMPONENT ARE EPOXY RESINS, POLYESTER RESINS, ROOM TEMPERATURE CURING PHENOLICS AND FILLER CONTAINING POLYSULFIDE RUBBER, REPOLYMERIZED DEPOLYMERIZED RUBBER AND POLYURETHANES. FILLERS MAY BE PRESENT IN THE LIQUID COMPOSITIONS. BY THE FAVORED METHOD DECORATIVE AND UTILITARIAN ARTICLES WITH COMPLICATED UNDERCUTS CAN BE PREPARED IN A SIMPLE AND ECONOMIC MANNER.
