An underwater hydroelectric turbine comprises a turbine housing having an inlet and an outlet, a central shaft extending axially inside the turbine housing, a self-contained, sealed front bearing unit for rotationally supporting a front end of the central shaft, and a self-contained, sealed rear bearing unit for rotationally supporting a rear end of the central shaft. The front bearing unit and the rear bearing unit each comprises a self-powered lubricant circulation system that draws a fraction of the mechanical power from rotation of the central shaft to circulate lubricant through each respective bearing unit. The turbine may have an equilibrium chamber for automatically balancing lubricant pressure inside a lubricant-containing chamber of the bearing chambers with ambient water pressure outside the bearing housing.

The invention relates to a new material in thermoplastic resin.The new laminated material with a basis of thermoplastic resin according to the invention is characterized in that it is in the form of a skin with at least one smooth face (1a), and having at least one dense and compact layer of thermoplastic resin, which layer is free from any gaseous trapping, and a fibrous layer (1b) formed of thermoplastic resin fibers and being an integral part of the compact layer.The invention finds an application in the production of wall coverings and panels.

A process for obtaining isobutylene in a purity greater than 99.5% from an initial feed of relatively pure isobutylene which further has minor quantities of tertiary butyl alcohol, water, polymers of isobutylene, and cis and trans-2-butenes in an economic manner while retaining good yields of the isobutylene by distilling the initial feed to separate a significant portion of the isobutylene with a purity equal to or greater than 99.5% with the remaining mixture containing tertiary butyl alcohol, water, polymers of isobutylene, cis and trans-2-butenes and isobutylene in an amount from 0 to 5% by weight; washing the latter mixture with water to obtain an aqueous phase of tertiary butyl alcohol and an organic phase containing the remainder of said mixture including the isobutylene not previously separated (and some tertiary butyl alcohol not dissolved in the wash water); and distilling the organic phase to separate the polymers of isobutylene from a mixture containing isobutylene and the cis and trans-2-butenes whereby the latter can be recovered by recycling for extraction; and distilling the aqueous phase to separate an azeotrope from the remainder of the water whereby the tertiary butyl alcohol in the azeotrope may be dehydrated to isobutylene.

The filtering molten metal injector system includes a holder furnace, a casting mold supported above the holder furnace, and at least one molten metal injector supported from a bottom side of the casting mold. The holder furnace contains a supply of molten metal. The mold defines a mold cavity for receiving the molten metal from the holder furnace. The molten metal injector projects into the holder furnace. The molten metal injector includes a cylinder defining a piston cavity housing a reciprocating piston for pumping the molten metal upward from the holder furnace to the mold cavity. The cylinder and piston are at least partially submerged in the molten metal when the holder furnace contains the molten metal. The cylinder or the piston includes a molten metal intake for receiving the molten metal into the piston cavity when the holder furnace contains molten metal. A conduit connects the piston cavity to the mold cavity. A molten metal filter is located in the conduit for filtering the molten metal passing through the conduit during the reciprocating movement of the piston. The molten metal intake may be a valve connected to the cylinder, a gap formed between the piston and an open end of the cylinder, an aperture defined in the sidewall of the cylinder, or a ball check valve incorporated into the piston. A second molten metal filter preferably covers the molten metal intake to the injector.

A similarly perforated and lined cover is placed over the mold and foamable polyurethane material is poured into the mold through an elastic hose-like conduit connected to a filling aperture on the mold cover. This material expands within the mold completely filling the space around the object and thereby forms a fitted package around the object. The gas-pervious sheet material lining the mold may be a plurality of synthetic-resin panels formed of parallel inner and outer walls spaced apart by parallel webs defining between the inner and outer walls a plurality of parallel passages. These inner and outer walls are formed with throughgoing perforations opening into the passages so that as the synthetic-resin material expands it passes through the perforations on the inner walls only and projects into the passages.

The reinforcing elements comprise a core of polymerized resin encased in a layer of glass fabric between a pair of laths. The partition can be given a complex curvature by placing the reinforcing elements and interlaced glass cloth in a shuttering composed of a supple plastic sheet outwardly reinforced with laths transverse of the reinforcing elements and pouring an expansible resin foam, thereby eliminating the rigid conventional mould.

The molten metal intake is located below the metal oxide film surface of the molten metal when the holder furnace contains the molten metal. A method of injecting molten metal into a mold cavity of a casting mold is also disclosed.

The mold is capped and a synthetic resin is introduced therein and expanded, the air in the mold being displaced out through the mold walls, to completely encapsulate the body.
