A cavity ring-down spectroscopy (CRDS) mirror is constructed to resist migration of a maximum reflectance peak during use where the CRDS mirror may become accreted with contamination that would otherwise cause the maximum reflectance peak to migrate. The mirror includes a mirror stack disposed on a mirror substrate and a plurality of alternating laminates including a first film with a first index of refraction and a second film with a second index of refraction. Each film is a one-quarter wavelength thickness of a given light energy that is to illuminate the mirror. A subsequent laminate is disposed on the plurality of alternating laminates. The subsequent laminate includes a quarter wavelength thickness first film and a second film with a wavelength thickness in a range from greater than 1.5 quarter wavelength and less than 2 quarter wavelength.

A UV flame sensor for detecting a run-on condition in a flame detector tube is disclosed. The UV flame sensor comprises a pair of secondary electrodes that are enclosed in a mesotube to form a breakdown chamber in order to detect the run-on condition. These secondary electrodes are exposed to UV through an aperture in a cathode plate and are energized continuously by a lower voltage. The mesotube is expected to break down when the run-on condition occurs. The secondary electrodes can be placed in the same gas environment as the main electrodes that may take different forms, shapes and locations.

A common multi-gas ring down detector incorporates a cavity that has a piezoelectric mirror and at least two displaced mirrors to define two different transit paths in the cavity. The two paths intersect at the piezoelectric mirror at different angles. Two different laser beams having first and second different wavelengths, can be coupled to the cavity, at different times, by driving the piezoelectric mirror axially. Beam outputs can be evaluated to establish the presence of selected gases in the cavity.

A mesotube apparatus is disclosed which includes a header insulator in order to avoid premature breakdown at lower voltage that occurs between a cathode and an anode in a discharge assembly. A chamber can be mounted on a header base and can be located away from plasma surrounded with dielectric so that breakdown occurs outside the normal voltage operating range. A number of feed-through pins associated with the header base can be electrically isolated from the header base by a dielectric insulator. The dielectric insulator can also be placed over the header base and topside of the chamber in order to passivate from stray electrons and plasma. The header base can be thin which allows welding of the anode and the cathode to the feed-through pins with a weld tool attached to the side of the feed-through pins. The chamber can be located on the header base by tightly fitting to the feed-through pins.

A toxic gas sensor or device which is a cavity ring-down spectroscopy device having two or more mirror components. Each of the mirror components has two Brewster windows attached to it. The Brewster windows are resistant to toxic gases and together with the respective mirror form a hermetically sealed volume for the mirror surface to protect it from the environment or test gases. The Brewster windows may have a heating mechanism to remove contaminants, condensation, and provide temperature stabilization and other beneficial features.
