Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting broadcast signals are discussed. The method can include generating an input stream having plural input packets, link processing the input packets in the input stream to generate link layer packets, physical processing the link layer packets into the broadcast signals, and transmitting the broadcast signals. The link processing can include generating a payload of a link layer packet by encapsulating either a segment of one input packet or concatenated input packets, generating a header of the link layer packet including a base part, the base part including a first field which indicates whether the payload includes either the segment or the concatenated input packets, and inserting the header in front of the payload;

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for transmitting broadcast signals thereof are disclosed. The apparatus for transmitting broadcast signals, the apparatus comprises an encoder to encode service data, a framing block to map the encoded service data into data symbols to build at least one signal frame, a frequency interleaver to frequency interleaving data in the at least one signal frame by using an interleaving sequence, a modulator to perform a modulation on the frequency interleaved data by the OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex) scheme and a transmitter to transmit the broadcast signals having the modulated data, wherein a different interleaving sequence is used for two consecutive data symbols corresponding to an OFDM symbol pair or a data symbol corresponding to an OFDM symbol according to an FFT size of the modulation.

Abstract: A broadcast signal transmitter is provided that includes an Forward Error Correction (FEC) encoder configured to error correction process Physical Layer Pipe (PLP) data; a bit interleaver configured to bit interleave the PLP data; a framer configured to generate a signal frame comprising the PLP data, the signal frame comprising a preamble and at least one subframe; a pilot inserter configured to insert Scattered Pilots (SPs) into the signal frame; and an Inverse Fast Fourier Transform (IFFT) modulator configured to perform Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM)-modulation on the signal frame. An SP pattern of the SPs is defined by Dx and Dy, the Dx being a separation of pilot bearing carriers in a frequency direction and the Dy being a number of symbols forming one scattered pilot sequence in a time direction. The amplitude of the SPs is determined from a SP boosting parameter and the SP pattern of the SPs.
